C:\WINDOWS\System32\mscpxl32.exe

My ad-aware keeps popping this up every ten minutes or so, asking me what to do. I keep blocking it, yet it stills keeps popping up. The above is what is in the field for "New Data"... the "Key" is Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. The "Value" is mscpxl32.

What the heck is this and why won't it stop popping up, asking me what to do with it?!

No... I scanned for that and it came out clean. I also went and downloaded a tool that nesseone recommended for the sasser32 virus and my computer came out clean again.

I don't know. I wish I knew what this was and why it keeps happening. It's trying to change something for some reason and I can't figure out why or how to stop it.

Thank you, though.

You should try running a complete scan with a few other spyware removal tools like SpySweeper and PestPatrol.

The only thing related to spyware/adware I could find with mscpxl32 was someone posted a message about a virus called "PopNav"

I think that file is the same name of a valid MS file used in ODBC references.

Could be a pop-up in disguise of a real system file name, though.

I am running the X-Cleaner from the SpywareInfo website. Okay it's done now and nothing came up. When the pop-up thingy comes up from my Ad-Watch it says that another program is trying to add a value to something. I ran Adaware again and it found six registry values that were changed and I deleted them. Ran it again, seven more showed up. Grrr... this is frustrating.

Okay... now running SpySweeper... so far this is what it says.
Software Fingerprints Loaded: 20,577
Memory Items Inspected: 1,295
Registry Items Inspected: 7,143
Files/Folder Inspected: Currently in the 6,000's ... it's not done yet.
Software found: 5
Traces found: 644

So... are the traces found the ones that are giving me problems? I have no idea how to work this spysweeper stuff.

Ooooh... at the bottom of the SpySweeper is shows me what programs it found that are currently running. How do I get rid of them, or will it automatically do this for me?!

Nine times out of ten these kind of traces are downloaded porn. Probably involving dwarves/midgets in unlikely positions.

no no no!

I would believe it. I know that's exactly where I got these from. Does that stop him from screwing up my computer? Nooooo... grrrrr. Although, I'm pretty sure it isn't dwarves and midgets he's been looking at.

So far I have this:

Detected Running Software: Backweb tempiahide3.dll
Adware found: Alexa Toolbar
Adware found: Backweb
Adware found: CoolWWW
Adware found: E acceleration
Adware found: OpenSite

And exactly 69 "Cookie Found" entries, which all seem to have some reference to porn in each of them. Now, I deleted all of my cookie and cleaned my cache yesterday. What's the deal?

This is so very frustrating to me.

Well... okay. There have been some rather "odd" things that I've found he's looked at while looking to see what it is he's been looking at to screw this thing up. So, there could have been some dwarves and midgets in there that I may have missed. That guy goes through porn sites like nobody's business! I swear. When I check the history it's one right after the other... lol I've teased him about it... he doesn't know how I know. I'm gonna keep it that way. smile

Get rid of all that "Spysweep" and "Ad-Watch" crap.

Download Spybot, update it, run it, wash and repeat as needed.

Go to the link I posted earlier to make sure you get the official version.

Spybot doesn't catch all spyware/adware. Actually, none of them do. It's been my experience in the past that running several of the more popular spyware/adware removal programs is the best way to get the most of it off your system.

However, many of them are designed to stay running in the background and continually monitor your system. It's probabbly better to totally exit them once you're done scanning with them. Running several at once will slow your computer down.
