NOW WITH PIC - A Naked Woman, A Cage, Some Body Paint and Yours Truly... ... ingredients for our circus protest tomorrow! every year, i participate in a series of protests around the Ringling Bros. arrival in Charlotte, and it's that time again!
Kayla, an amazing model and animal rights activist, will strip down to her panties, wear some tiger body paint, and place herself in a small cage in the main square in uptown Charlotte to draw attention to the plight of animals in the circus (mind you, it will be around 40 degrees Fahrenheit tomorrow!) she always draws a crowd, and the rest of us take that opportunity to hand out flyers and hopefully prevent people from supporting this and other circuses that use and abuse animals. for more information on what's wrong with circuses, go to http://www.circuses.com we'll have a blast! if you're in the area, come on down! The circus is a big deal here where I live.
I've never been before until I took my nieces and I deeply regret it. There were protesters at this circus also, they were passing out anti-circus material and one my nieces took some one and asked me bunch of questions about it, I was butally honest in answering their questions. We still went, but after having been informed of the what was going on behind the scences, the circus suddenly lost a lot of it's appeal. My nieces said they never wanted to go back. If that stripper came here I would go see her, no doubt.

If that stripper came here I would go see her, no doubt. i've found that, when we protest in front of the venue later (sans the naked lady - that's just for the adults - the business men just love it!!), the children immediately "get it". sadly, at that point, the tickets have already been sold, but i can tell in their eyes that they see exactly what's inherently wrong with it. and when your child asks "Mom, why do they use that big hook on the elephant?" or "Dad, i learned in school that tigers are afraid of fire - why do they make them jump through the hoop?", it takes a big person to admit the truth - that it's for our entertainment, and for the profits of the circus.

I've seen these type of protests before. i love the idea of it all and not in a perverted way it just makes a lot of sense. I love the fact that you stick to your beliefs and have good reasons why. Good for you!!!

I'm thinking this year might have to be the year where I go aggressively vegetarian for a while. I'm usually all shy and "to each his own" about it, but dammit, I miss putting PETA stickers on packages of meat at the grocery!

Well, slightly dissapointed after the headline but all power to you. In my neck of the woods, our council won't allow any circus with animals in it. In fact, I don't think there's any town or City near me that will allow them.
That's great for 2 reasons. Firstly, the animals. Secondly, there's a lot more ladies in small outfits hanging off trapezes which, let's be honest, is the main reason we're all there. "But, darling, the reason I was staring at her is because she was hanging off a trapeze by her small toe with no safety net" "You know, you're the classic example of the inverse ratio between the size of the mouth and the size of the brain"

"But, darling, the reason I was staring at her is because she was hanging off a trapeze by her small toe with no safety net" two very excellent reasons, in my humble opinion! (and the tights on the trapeze catcher hug rather nicely in all the right places, too! so there's something for everybody!)

A half naked woman dancing in a cage? Who the hell would wanna go into the circus when they have that kind of entertainment outside????
Seriously though, bravo to you. I'd much rather see a performance by Cirque De Soliel, with incredible human performances, any day than see a bunch of poor animals being tormented. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

here's an update - just got back, and the protest was a resounding success! there were 6 of us total (which is a pretty good turnout for Charlotte), and 4 TV stations were there, plus the local alternative newspaper. so there will be plenty of media coverage. we had the usual heavy lunchtime foot traffic, and gave out loads of brochures.
everytime i do one of these, i realize that that's where my passion is. i LOOOOOVE doing this stuff, and need to find a way to do this for a living! thanks for all your comments and your encouragement!
