I agree with you about the comedies, they are getting more raunchy/sexual and I find them not funny at all. Well Dunkirk is coming out this summer

Don't like my horror movies coming out in the summer. Like them coming out towards the end of the year around Halloween time. |

In addition to sci fi being over looked by the television academy, Emmy voters don't really have time to watch much TV (according to podcasts from people in the industry). There are always a ton of good shows that gets overlooked while long in the tooth shows like Modern Family and Downton Abbey (until it recently concluded) keep getting nominated. On the other hand, I wouldn't want to see good but not great scifi films like The Force Awakens winning any kind of best picture
Oscar.

There are still good non-action based movies being made that appeal to people who don't like super heroes, sci-fi, horror, action movies. Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Tarantino, Christopher Nolan etc have made some great movies over the last few years and they've got some great looking movies on the horizon. My point was that those directors (with the exception of Nolan) don't make superhero movies or the kind of run of the mill action/horror/comedy movies that are heavily marketed. But they're not the only directors making different kinds of movies. I go to the cinema at least twice a week, every week and I'm never stuck for something to see despite me avoiding any movies featuring The Rock or awful looking horrors or r rated "comedies" with Will Ferrell, Adam Sandler, Amy Schumer etc. I don't believe there are less great movies for older audiences around now, I just think they are drowned out for the most part by the bigger budget releases but they are still being made. |

Went to a screening sunday and I liked it... Wasn't as awesome as I hoped but more tense than expected... The music is, again, ON POINT with the cinematography... It's short for a Nolan movie but that doesn't matter for once, it's a tense ride that doesn't need 2+ hours to be effective...
But still "The Prestige" remains his best effort...

I am not a youngling, (50s) and my favorite movie genre is sci-fi/fantasy. Those are the movies that will get me into the theatre. The majority of the other flicks I will wait until it hits ONdemand or something.

That's fair enough. His later movies can be an acquired taste. I'd recommend Reservoir Dogs though. I still think it's his best. It was before the success of Pulp Fiction went to his head. And though he didn't direct it, True Romance is brilliant too. One of his best scripts. Plus it's got a pre-megastar Brad Pitt in a small role so that's always a plus. |
