Tony Romo

Reports are the undrafted rookie who quarterbacked the most important NFL franchise for
about 13 years is set to retire today.

Thoughts?

What's to think about? Most football players retire before they are 40. Just gets harder to run around and all those injuries for life.

Tony Roma was big in Dallas before Tony Romo was big in Dallas!

But I applaud Romo's decision to retire. With the kind of neck and back injuries he's had, I cannot fathom ever playing football again.

Productive, tough QB whose career was marked by a couple of big mistakes in January and hampered by poor personnel decisions after the guy who groomed him, Bill Parcells, left.

I'm not sure his Cowboys resume is as good as even Danny White's, as White had several deep playoff runs.

But his football resume is better than most of the QBs of his generation.

And that's from a Washington fan.

His resume is impressive when compared against most of the QBs of his generation. But when you
consider that Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Ben Roethlisberger, Kurt Warner, and Tom Brady were
his contemporaries, what say ye then?

Or, ought we stop considering the qualitative worth of modern day athletes through a lens of rings
obtained?

Without that ring Romo is just a good QB, like Rivers

Warner and Manning had been in the league at least 6 years before Romo, and Brees and Brady at least 3 or 4 years as well. Big Ben came in as a much higher draft pick, around the same time.'

That said, considering "generation" broadly, the QB's you mentioned are not "most" QBs, but the best of the best.

The reality is that his football resume can and should be compartmentalized for a fair assessment on the merits.

To answer your questionm, "Ought' isn't in most football fan dictionaries. A lot of Cowboys fans, for all his accomplishments, are glad to see him gone because of what he DIDN'T do. And that's sad but it's the reality.

Still, I think Romo will be looked at more fondly as time goes on. He will be considered a Dan Fouts kind of player. And I loved and still love Dan Fouts as a QB.

wave Cowboys fan here. Despite what non-Cowboys fans think about actual Cowboys fans, I don't hate Romo at all. He's accomplished a lot, yes, however, I can't say that I'm sad to see him go either. Actually, I'm quite proud that he chose to retire as opposed to keep playing. At some point, you have to ask yourself how much more can your body take...and Romo's body is basically done for the sport.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

They said on the news this morning he was going to "play" for the Dallas Mavericks! But just as some kind of promotion.
