Why you like it Emma?

It's a good show with an interesting story to tell. Everyone knows about Batman and villains like Penguin, Two Face, Riddler, Catwoman etc but something that hasn't been explored much in movies or TV is the back stories behind those characters. Being that Gotham is set during a time when Bruce Wayne's parents are killed and he's dealing with why that was it's a good way of showing WHY he chooses to become Batman. None of the movies did a great job of explaining that which is understandable considering the format, but a TV series exploring these things has more time to develop relationships between characters and give more insight into why things are how they are. It also shows infamous villains like Penguin and Riddler before they were big time bad guys. When Gotham starts, Penguin is just an underling of another villain and the Riddler was on the police force. The show is as much about them as it is about Bruce Wayne's transformation into Batman or detective Gordon's rise through the ranks. It's not perfect by any means, there have been quite a few moments where I've thought it went a bit too far from the accepted mythology of the characters, but if you take it for what it is, a cop show set in Gotham City years before Batman shows up, then it's really pretty good. Especially now that they seem to be introducing the Joker, who so far seems like a mix between Jack Nicholson, Mark Hamill and Heath Ledger.

Don't you mean Puuuurfect?? For me it's great............but hate the gay thing with Penguin/Riddler. Also them killing off Jerome was a big no no but as we know now that is no longer the case. I know some people hate that they made Barbara evil but hey for all we know that could be some one using her face. Aging Poison Ivy could just be a temporary thing, maybe the writers wanted to show off her sexuality during the shows run.

I won't get to see it til tomorrow night due to the time difference between Ireland and America. I'm hoping it's good. It better be. Give me something to look forward to because with the exception of Agents of Shield, there are no other TV shows currently on that I watch. I suppose I can work through my back log of boxsets I haven't watched yet. I've got the entire series of The X Files, 24, Shield and the American version of House of Cards on standby.

I tried to watch Supergirl once or twice but I didn't like it. Remember in Smallville how they'd often (too often) have episodes that just felt silly, like the one with Clark Luthor or the whole thing about the "meteor freaks". That's what I was reminded of with Supergirl. I'm sure I'll give them a go at some stage but the cast of the shows keep putting me off. It's like they all stepped off the set of The O.C. or something.

Well Penguin got shot and Joker is in jail so that means when Gotham returns in April they will focus on the Riddler

I'd be very surprised if the Penguin was dead. He'll be back at some point, for sure. I like that Riddler suit but it's noticeably cane-less...

Clark found himself in the body of a version of himself in an alternate universe where he was found by Lionel Luthor instead of the Kents and he was a real prick who nobody liked. There was a scene where he tried to convince Lois that he was not the Clark of that world but Oliver Queen told him to leave her alone because in that alternate reality, Lois was with Oliver. I don't remember much in the way of specific plot details but that's the gist of it. There were a few episodes of Smallville like that where they messed around with alternate realities and different versions of the same characters swapping around and stuff. I didn't like those episodes. I think Smallville was a show that would have benefited from being 8-10 episodes per season and just cut out all the filler. Judging from the ads and what little I've seen from the Arrowverse shows, they seem to be similar.

Smallville was on for 10 years, I think the first 5 years should have been Smallville and the last 5 seasons should have been Metropolis (with him as Superman)

Yeah that would have been great. They continued on that way in comic form didn't they? I remember seeing a comic book in Forbidden Planet called Smallville season 11 with a picture of Superman on it. I'm not sure if it was official or not, but it would have been good had they continued it on TV. There hasn't been a Superman show on TV since Dean Cain. Now, I love Dean Cain but it would be nice to see Superman back on the small screen.

Yeah kinda remember that episode, first 5 seasons were really good then started to drag because it was time for him to be Superman (like I mentioned should be Metropolis.) I hate when the hero loses their powers and it is "accidentally" transferred to some one else.

They did that far too often for my liking. It's lazy writing really. It's like they couldn't figure out how to introduce a legitimate threat so they just conveniently had Clark lose him powers. I liked Smallville but like you say, once it hit around season 5 it felt like they were struggling to come up with decent stories that didn't involve Superman.

Exactly. Also didn't care for the season in which that paramedic guy was doomsday. Came off as Doomsday lite. Also Darkseid was done bad as well.
