With a movie like this I wish they would go the Peter Jackson route and release an extended version instead of just deleted scenes.

My 14-year old son is a HUGE Star Wars fan. While he has some critiques of this movie, overall, he truly enjoys all things Star Wars related. I took him to the theater to see this, and I watched him more than I did the movie. His excitement, his energy was so just incredible throughout the film.

.

Flash to today, I knew this had come out. We were going to have dinner and a movie night at home, so I was going through the Amazon app on the game system and was looking at Prime movies, and tried to find the worst kiddie movie I could find. I finally found something and announced to him and his sister (12 years old) that we were watching it (something like "Thumbelina" or some such). Don't even remember what the movie was now. We only watched the intro and about 5 minutes of the movie and both kids were complaining. "Mom, aren't dinner/movie nights supposed to be fun nights with GOOD movies???" "What's up with watching this movie? It's a "kids" movie. We're not that little anymore." All through those first 5 minutes, they were both going on and on. Finally, I stopped and said, "Fine! We'll watch something else!" Switched over to movie purchases and my son about jumped out of his seat, "MOOOOM! Mom, oh please!? MOM!" First movie on the carousel was The Force Awakens. I had to laugh at him. He was just jumping up and down in his seat like he did when the movie began at the theater. He laughed when he found out I had already known it was out, knew that was the movie we would watch tonight, but since it was April Fools Day, had to play it out with a kiddie movie before starting that one.

JJ said something about how he had final cut and did not really like the idea of extended versions. Which is interesting as he could have put out an extended cut into theaters and maybe took the top world wide spot from Avatar or at the very least beat titanic...or broke a Billion domestic and gotten well into the top 10 adjusted for inflation. (it is at 11 now)

But they could still do that...maybe in Thanksgiving 2017?

seems rather thin on the extras... most if not all are about 10 mins or less...

but guess i will keep my copy... which has yet to ship!

I wonder if the bootleg sites have the 4 hour version streaming? (not that I would ever watch any such thing.)

There are a lot of set pictures from Episode VIII in this thread. Nothing spoilery just some cool images of what will most likely be a new planet, filmed in Croatia. A Lot of extras in costume.

Since this is the first official one that counts IMO, I'll post this here. From Rian Johnson's Tumblr, here is Maz Kanata being filmed for episode VIII.

Anyone else think the new orchestral strike that starts the movie sounds weak in comparison to all 6 other films?

I hate to bash the great John Williams, but the complete soundtrack to TFA is hands down the worst SW soundtrack of all. There is nothing that stands out, other than "Rey's Theme" and "Torn Apart" (the Kylo Ren/Han Solo scene). Question...do you think that beginning doesnt hit as hard because we're missing the 20th Century Fox opening?

From the rumors I've been reading the next movie is gonna take place exactly where the last one ended.

So

Shortest Title Crawl ever.

I read something similar, and I wonder...every SW film has started off with ships in space. How are they going to immediately pick up with Rey and Luke on the island? Is someone coming down to the island to visit? Are they just going to replay the Falcon's arrival? Is it Christmas 2017 yet?

I saw the film. Enjoyed it, but realized my love affair with Star Wars was over.

I see the dvd sets in the stores and try to will myself to get aroused, but nothing happens and I keep walking.

No I mean the actual orchestral hit that begins the main theme. I'd been listening to the first three soundtracks on vinyl on repeat as a child (no 20th Century Fox fanfare on the soundtracks)... and own all the movies on blu-ray... but I thought something was wrong with the theater I saw the new movie in... but then the rest sounded great. But then I saw it again... and same thing. I need to compare the hits back to back from the soundtrack wav file.

I love it! My kids are great and have incredible wit. I really have to stay on my toes around them, so when I can find something to mess with them a little somehow ... well, payback you know!? Like my daughter, I was lecturing her one day (don't remember about what now), she looks me straight in the eyes and says in a deadpan voice, "Mom, I can't brains today, I gots the dumbs." I broke out laughing, lecture was over. lol

hell no
I saw the movie in theaters 3D and the movie makes no sense.
It is a copycat of SW A New Hope.
He took the 'heroes' 30+yrs back to where they started from ie rebels
Because I paid money for myself and my nephew, I chose to watch it as an individual movie.
But as a veteran Star Wars fan/academic, the movie sucked.

No...that "honor" goes to Episode II. Attack of the Clones has the worst score, since much of it is reused cues from the previous films. "Rey's Theme" alone puts it above AotC.
