Dog is every owner's best friend.

It is commonly known that dogs are incredibly loyal and have instincts to help others. The pets are present in more than 43 million U.S. households — and for good reason.

Pooches have come to the aid of their owner's on countless occasions and are known to help those suffering from depression, anxiety, PTSD and many other illnesses.

On National Puppy Day, here's a look at just a few of the many dogs that saved their owner's lives:

Chloe the firefighter

Dog's rescuing their precious family members from fires happen quite frequently. There are instincts dogs have that seem to happen before a human's, like picking up the scent of smoke.

In June 2014, a Washington State family's home was destroyed by a blaze, but the family was fine thank... pet Chloe's frantic barking.

.

Unfortunately, as the family exited with their young daughter, they lost their pet Chihuahua in the shuffle. But luckily, firefighters discovered the small pooch in the rubble and she was able to reunite with the emotional homeowners.

.

Figo the traffic wonder

A blind woman from New York was almost killed by oncoming bus in June 2015 - but luckily her quick-thinking servic...icle first.

.

The golden retriever named Figo came to owner Audrey Stone's aide protecting her from what could have been much worse than a broken ankle, elbow and a few cracked ribs. The pooch also suffered an injured front leg.

.

Jedi uses the force

The black Labrador Jedi noticed 7-year-old Luke Natall’s blood sugar was alarmingly low, so he jumped onto Luke’s mom Dorrie’s bed to alert her.

.

A service dog was recently credited with saving the life of a youn...h diabetes.

The black Labrador named Jedi noticed that the 7-year-old had alarmingly low blood sugar and notified his parents by jumping on the bed.

.

"This is a picture of Jedi saving his boy. Saving him from highs and lows and from ever feeling alone," the boy's mother Dorrie Nuttall wrote on Facebook.

.

Luke hasn't been fighting the Type 1 Diabetes alone thanks to Jedi. The family's Facebook page "Saving Luke - Luke and Jedi - Fighting Type 1 Diabetes Together" is dedicated to finding a cure.

The most beautiful creatures in this earth. Love them wholeheartedly; how it hurts when their time comes.

Laika, a mixed-breed dog, was the first living being in orbit. She was launched on the Soviet Union's Sputnik 2 mission in November 1957.

dJJ

My grandmother always raised money for the dogs who get trained to guide blind people. She knew her good causes.

Nowadays dogs get trained to assist war vetereans with PTSD.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

i have really, really ambivalent feelings about using sentient animals for military or other service. like, bomb dogs in iraq. or astronaut dogs in space. they are not asked for consent. it seems an unjust thing to ask of a dog. they're so loyal

Agree, is a crime; use people not animals.

The circumstances surrounding this were quite questionable. But at what point do you draw the line? When their lives may be in danger? So no guarddogs, K9s, or bomb sniffers?
