Whatever happened to good movies?

I'm sure most of us kind of 'anticipate' October, November and December to watch movies that are likely to get nominated for Oscars, Golden Globes and shit.

But why do we have to wait? Good movies trascend timing and period. Why do big companies like Warner Bros and Columbia Records wait especially untill Christmas to release their finest productions?

I remember back in '03 or '04 you could go to the movies EVERYDAY and there's a good movie, like, an indie one, or a foreign film, or just anything good and unique, something that doesn't feature Samuel L Jackson or Ben Stiller... something that's not an orchestrated blockbuster...

And so, when we ACTUALLY get to see these much anticipated projects in December and so forth, you get this feeling that film quality has vanished. COMPLETELY! There's no longer a larger understanding of the film theory nor a set of goals to accomplish from a true, original filmmaking venture. All about adaptation from best-selling novels, writing biopics about this and that.. Whatever the fuck happened to style and raw imagery? Yes, we still have Tarantino, Paul Thomas Anderson, Nolan, Terrence Malick, the Coens, Scorsese, Woody, and all sorts of household names, but it's kinda sad that we have to stick to those familiar names. And it's always them at the Oscars, DiCaprio this and Alejandro that....

WHY DO OSCARS MATTER THAT MUCH?

You're telling me that the new film of Spielberg is COMPLETED, EDITED, PRODUCED... and they need to wait untill December to relase it?
