Episode VIII delayed 7 months until December, 17, 2017

since people are over TFA I thought people wouldn't check the other thread.

Star Wars: Episode VIII to Open December 15, 2017

The release date for the next film in the saga is confirmed.

Today, Disney and Lucasfilm announced that Star Wars: Episode VIII, originally scheduled for release in summer 2017, will now debut on December 15, 2017.

The move follows the extraordinary success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which was the first Star Wars movie to premiere outside the traditional summer blockbuster window and smashed numerous records, including biggest domestic and global debuts of all time as well as the biggest domestic second and third weekends, en route to becoming the highest grossing domestic release of all time with over $861.3 million and the third biggest global release ever with $1.886.7 billion.

Written and directed by Rian Johnson, Star Wars: Episode VIII is currently in preproduction and will begin principal photography in London next month. Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman will produce and J.J. Abrams, Jason McGatlin, and Tom Karnowski will executive produce. Stay tuned for exciting updates in the coming weeks.

Rumor has it that the script is being re-written. This after both JJ Abrams and Daisy Ridley claimed to have read the script and loved it. Hmm...I'm thinking some of the changes JJ made to the original TFA script are causing "issues".

Make it so, Number One...

From what Ive read the script is being rewriten to give Rey, Finn and Poe more to do. The before script was introducing a lot of different characters and giving Finn a new female character to interact with, while Rey was being trained by Luke. That is being shelved so Rey and Finn interact more.

Do you think this is because there were a lot of people complaining about there being too much nostalgia in Ep 7? So now the filmmakers are trying to focus more on the new characters that were introduced in Force Awakens. If that's the case then I'd be very disappointed. I loved Force Awakens and it's more of Luke that I want to see, not less.

I'd say that instead of Luke and Rey staying on the planet, she gets him to come back to the resistance and have him train her there. but that pure speculation.

The problem in TFA being a remake of ANH isn't the characters (Han and Chewie are the only old characters to have a real presence anyway), it's the situations.

They can totally remake TESB with new characters: Luke trains Rey on an isolated planet while the others run away from a now triumphant evil, and an obssessed Ben hires a bounty hunter to hunt them down and finally they meet an old friend who betrays them and Rey is too late and Finn is captured and to be continbued in Ep IX.

I hope they won't be so dumb as to do that, though. They got away with that shit once, I don't think it'll work for a second movie

Is it wise to go with a different Director? There is a method to JJ Abrams Madness and only he knows what works...Trusting a new Director's vision is a Gamble.....

Yeah, I think it's weird that before Ep 7 came out, they already hired two other separate directors for Ep VIII and IX.
