Well, you can say it now. The internet killed the centerfold star. Playboy has revealed their final nude centerfold in their print magazine before eliminating full nudity from their print publication in March. (They will still be publishing naked pictures online, but it will be posted behind a paywall and require a subscription to view them.)



That honor goes to Kristy Garrett, which is interesting considering she was born in the former Soviet republic of Georgia and was raised in Russia. (Most likely Kristy Garrett is a nom de plume, a.k.a. stage name.)

Meanwhile, Penthouse magazine has published its final print edition according to several sources, though some top level execuitives are denying those reports. What they have not denied, however, is that they are moving their content online, and the parent company of Penthouse has closed their New York publishing office and consolidated operations in Los Angeles.

Hef and his Playboy magazine both have a terrible reputation but both did a lot to establish certain writers, and Hef has always been a proponent of freedom of speech.

He IS a bit creepy but most folks just focus on his creepiness and not his achievements.

I never was a Playboy reader and despised most of what it stood for but they certainly had some great, daring interviews and articles in Playboy magazine.

It´s the end of an era indeed.

People will always love looking at pretty girls. Boys and girls both. That's why the internet is chock full of them.

Teen boys, ...and aldult boys can have them on their phone and see them any time and anywhere they want not have to hide a magazine under their bed or drawer from mom or wifey.

And it's all free. If heavily consumed and produced newspapers and music sales could not survive the internet, magazines hidden behind a counter certainly couldn't.

Yeah Quagmire types mostly, but people did not buy Playboy for the articles, they bought it for the tits and pxxxy. No one would buy the magazine if there were no jugs and fish in it, a group of articles about the bets bacardi and how to jive with swingers at the Kool Kat Mogdilani club meant little to the average 50s meathead who bought the first issue for the images of Marilyn Monroes tits.

I've been a (hetero female) Playboy subscriber for a long time and I'm genuinely not happy with their decision to pull the nudes from the print magazine. It's their brand, and I do think it will hurt the magazine more than it will help it despite the easy access of the internet.

Although Playboy (as a company) certainly has some sketchy things about it, the positive role the magazine played in the sexual revolution cannot be denied. They continue to lobby for women's rights in the magazine as well. The journalism is largely of a high quality as well.
