Lovie Smith: Bye bye

Lovie Smith was fired today.

The owners got tired of his excuses.

This guy has 3 playoff wins in 11 seasons as a head football coach.

3.........that says it all.

Want to know why he was fired?

Watch this and tell me if you think this guy has a clue.

Let's face it: only a select few coaches win Super Bowls, or for that matter, more than a handful of playoff games. Take a look at the playoff records of current NFL coaches. Many if not most have a worse record than Lovie as a head coach in January . . . including several coaches in the playoffs right now (Rivera, Lewis, Kubiak).

In any event, they knew his track record before he was hired.

That's true. My only issue with the Bucs this season is that defensively they
regresses down the stretch but in fairness he should have been given next season
to improve with a couple of changes on the defensive staff. They are so high on
Dirk. Jameis for all his talent still needs to cut down on the turnovers. Some
games he killed the team with multiple turnovers.

All valid points. Lovie is accountable for these problems, especially the defense. But he inherited a mess in terms of continuity and personnel, and your rookie is going to turn the ball over at QB. To be honest, I think they peformed better than expected. The franchise had already burned through several coaches, and firing Lovie only makes it a less attractive destination for FAs and coaches alike.

Lovie was a bad hire.

Have u ever heard him talk football or pay attention to him coaching games or practice?

I'm amazed he manage to con to different teams into $5 million/Year contracts.

Most NFL coaches turn out to be bad hires and many get multiple chances to prove it. It is so very difficult at that level.

Was he a bad hire when he took the Bears to the Super Bowl with a mediocre QB
Rex Grossman? He built a good defense during those years. Of course the bottom
fell out when the offense was ineffective but name me a Bears coach who has taken the Bears anywhere since Ditka besides Lovie or after Lovie. I have all day.

Well, I didn't really pay attention to how he relayed his knowledge to the public at large, but it's really hard for guys with a 10-year old's knowledge of football to stay in and around the Not for Long for so long.

Exactly the point I made in my very first post.

Lovie's among the masses of unsuccessful NFL coaches who haven't won a Super Bowl (like all but maybe 30 human beings in the Super Bowl era),

-and-

One of a few who've won a handful of games that "count," including a conference title.
