The time, cost, pain, suffering, anxiety...and then they still can't get the problem fixed on the first office visit?!! And that's the good ones--the bad ones charge you for stuff that you don't even need in the first place. Don't even mention orthodontists, periodontists, and all the other over-priced specialists waiting to give you bad treatment and steal yo money. OUCH!!!

Oh well, walk around with rotten teeth then. I need to see mine as it has been 5 years and my teeth need a decent clean. Otherwise for a 40 year old guy I am proud of my 32 surviving teeth.

I hear what you are saying, I have only visited dentists 4 times since 1994 when my last free care ended (Care is free up to age 18 if at school and up to 16 if you drop out in NZ), that was in 1996, 1999, 2003 and 2010. Each time, my teeth were cavity free and every time I got told I needed my partially impacted wisdom teeth removed, tooth whitening and a mercury amalgam filling replacement costing $000s or my teeth would rot, get infected or fall out.

Can't say that has happened yet, my partner claimes his bottom teeth were talked out by his dentist to fund the dentists skiing trips!

tell me about it! i recently paid for the privileged of sitting in a made-for-giants dental chair that didn't fit me, blinded by bright glaring lights while 80s radio hits pounded into the room from shrill speakers. all that was beFORE the dentist finally showed up and went to work. he was grumpy, he'd missed lunch and it was 2 pm, he smelled a bit like stress and was preoccupied by something else in his life and oh boy. that was unpleasant. my teeth are in good shape but that experience makes me want to avoid preventive dentistry forever going forward
