I miss you over here.

Did you at least do a walk or another atainable goal that makes you feel good?

Update:

I had my first new session with the trainer on Tuesday.

He kicked my @ss. In the 2 months that I was MIA, I lost most of the gains that I had made in the strength & endurance department. It's like we're starting from scratch again.
mad

I was sore for 2 days.

Tonight I will go back for some cardio, I have another session w/ the trainer tomorrow morning.

Pray for me. pray

So good that you went. I think that is a real accomplishment.

Right.

I went to the ice skate lesson.

We went out for a drink.

In the end I made out with a very cute guy (a bit younger).

It was not my intention, but we went out, got very drunk and kissed eachother all over.

I'm getting back into the swing of things after not working out for a few months after straining a muscle in my lower back. I've been eating right, only doing take out or restaurant dining on the weekends and cooking all my food on Sunday for my lunch during the week. This has been a huge help. So far I've lost about 6 pounds. I went to the gym Saturday and Sunday and plan to go this evening after work. Tomorrow will be rest day. I'll return back Wednesday and Thursday.

Just trying to take one day at a time. biggrin

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Don't overdo it! Aftere a long layoff, you should NOT get sore from working out. Your body isn't ready for it, and all that will do is de-motivate you from going back to the gym. Because you ARE starting from scratch. You wouldn't take a brand-new Ferrari out and push the engine to its RPM limits the first time out of the box, would you?

Tell your trainer that. Heck, have him call me if he needs some education.

I'm not a personal trainer but I've got close to 40 years' lifting experience. And I am here to tell you that getting sore is self-defeating. You should be working up to full lifts over a period of time. You should walk out of the gym tomorrow feeling great, and you should NOT wake up sore on Sunday morning.

.

[Edited 11/6/15 14:27pm]

Actually man, the soreness makes me feel good. To me it's like I'm "doing something right".

shrug

I'm trying to strengthen the core, hitting weak spots & such. Here's a sample of a typical workout:

  • warmup on elliptical for 5 minutes (20 seconds normal speed, 10 seconds as fast as I can, repeat over & over)
  • Squats w/ curls using an exercise ball for stability (15-18 reps)
  • medicine ball slams (1 minute)
  • Step ups using alternating legs w/ kettle press-ups (15-18 reps per side)
  • THX incline pullups (alternate between neutral and overhand arm postions)
  • dumbell press on an exercise ball (15lbs for 15-18 reps)
  • plank-ups [go from floor up to a plank, hold for 5 seconds, go down to floor, repeat] (1 minute)
  • cool-down (on treadmill until heart rate goes down)
  • cardio for 15 minutes (60 seconds normal, 30 seconds as fast as possible, repeat)

No machines or free weights until I correct the imbalances and weaknesses (i.e. weak neck and weak hip abductors)

shrug

Not really "fun" per-se, but once I get into the groove, I enjoy going (even if it's a bit of a chore).

I'm not a sports guy. As a kid I was really into handball (pretty good at it too!) but that died once I reached High School.

Is typing on the Org a sport? hmmm

Yes, typing on the Org is a recognized sport.

Well, can't be very proud of my sport achievements this week.

Beside the Sunday-after skate lesson getting drunk and making out with fellow class mate-

I have not done anything this week.

Skipped work-out because I was to hang over and had to rehabilitate. It has been a very long time since I drank more than 2 beverages.

Tonight I will go to the skate lesson again.

Of course.

Looking forward to it, eventhough I know my back will hurt for the full hour again. And half-way the lesson I feel horrible, because the excercises are hard.

But at the end I will feel good that I did it.

And I will go to RPM class tommorrow. Because I did find my pants and really have to start training seriously.

my only exercise is gardening -- (makes food!), biking to work (makes money!) and dancing -- (makes peace) -- just grooving in whatever way is comfortable to favorite songs.

Biking changed my life a lot -- inspired me to change my diet, get some sleep, etc. 5 years ago i was breathless biking to the end of my street, now i bike 12 miles a day like its easy.

If cutting anything out of your diet seems hard, i recommend just adding raw greens in any form -- i like adding a few leaves to a fruit smoothie -- still tastes like fruit, and chlorophyll helps cleanse out all the toxins that cause aches and pains.

I'm re-dedicating myself to the bench press. From now until I decide otherwise, almost every workout is going to be probably half bench pressing. I'm benching until I can't bench any more.

I maxed out at a 331 pound bench press in 2014, then had 3 separate (and non-weightlifting-related) episodes of bulging discs/sciatica. This impacted my benching, but I got back to 306 by the end of 2014. And that's where I've been throughout 2015 but I really haven't busted it on the bench.

Well, no more! Starting this morning I just went all-in on the bench. And I felt great! I pyramided from 216-236-266, and then 266-236-216. I did 2 sets at 266, getting 5 reps each.

My goal is to get to 356, and then see if I think I can handle 400. I really thought I was heading to 400 before all the bulging disc crud happened. We'll see!

I do need some motivation.

It's raining cats and dogs, the weather code is yellow**, and the ice track is outside. So, that means lessons in the rain, wind and when I fall on the ice, it is covered with a layer of water.

Now that I'm typing this, I think it's pretty badass if I don't skip the lesson but show up in this horrible weather. Will earn me a bit of respect from the trainer, too (I hope).

** In Holland that means you have to be carfeull on your bike, because the wind can blow you of the bicycle path. I know, to an American that is extremely funny. We have no idea what a tornado or real big storm is.

Went skating yesterday and I really enjoyed it.

As soon as the training started, the rain and wind stopped. So, I had the pleasure of a very quiet skate track and the trainer had a lot of individual time. Becuase only 6 people showed up for the class (normal is around 12).

And today I went to the fysiotherapist, and he helped me crack my back, so my back muscle is not jammed in anymore.

Then, I went to the gym tonight. I did not want to go, but then I thought about Ren and RodeoScho pushing those benches.....

So I went. Absolutely feeling good about myself.

I'm also stressed the f*ck out with some personal sh*t and work sh*t that's come my way recently (which you would think would make me want to run to the gym to de-stress) but by the time I'm done with dinner and PTA and whatever crap I'm doing, I collapse and fall asleep - sometimes even in my gym clothes.

I did not know that ice skating is a very versatile sport.

Today I went to the gym again, not for training, but for the lesson 'Balance'.

And that is really what I need. It's a combination of yoga en chai-chi postures, but a bit faster.

It's all about balancing your body and focus on your muscles.

I really need that lesson too. Because Ice skating is all about technique. If you have a good technique, you can handle your energy very efficiently and can skate for a long time.

And because the Elfstedentocht is 200 km long, it's imperative to handle your energy with care.

And in order to get a good skate technique, it's important to be able to balance your body.

So, I just started with a wild idea, and now I'm training my super core muscles and learning how to balance and stretch my body and focus on that.

I also need to work on my endurance. But for now it's a lesson a day, so I'm good.

Never did I expect this to be so versatile and intensive while in the same time it's so much fun.

I'm enjoying myself doing sport and working hard in the gym! eek
