Straight Outta Compton was the shit.

Damn good flick. Really gritty look at those times. Had to go see it. Compton aint no joke. Parts of Cincy here are turning worse, true. Sad, but true.

You all see it?

All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!

It was good and very entertaining...but I didnt learn anything I didnt already know about them. I thought they would go a little more in depth, like the gang riots that erupted at some of their early shows (I saw them in San Diego in 1989/1990...seeing as San Diego is a predominantly "Blood" city and they come from "Crip" Compton, every Blood hound rushed the stage, waved their red rags, and the show was over...they maybe got thru two songs), or the fact that their second album "Niggaz4life" was the first hip hop album to debut at #1 on the pop chart, and we've all read about the "domestic violence" issues Dre had. Still...very entertaining, far from a "docu" film

I believe it. Bloods are(and have always been) deep in San Diego, and i can see them set tripping like that. A person would think they(bloods) would have respected what NWA was about, and not trip on the gang stuff, though.

Anyway i was never a big NWA fan, and wasn't planning on seeing the movie. But after all the positive reviews and such, im gonna check it out.

Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.

I want to see it even though I wasn't NWA fan, but they were such an impact they were definitely hard to miss.

Ice Cube had a line in one of the songs on the first album (I dont remember which track)...

-

"Ice Cube is equipped to rip shit in a battle..."

-

Every Bloodhound thought he said...

-

"Ice Cube is a Crip to rip shit in a battle..."

-

That's all it took...dummies

@UncleJam.^Yeah bangers can be a sensitive bunch. Its funny though. From what i know, Eazy and MC Ren were the only gang affiliates in NWA. As far as Ice Cube. Here's a interesting video of a real gang member talking about Ice Cube, about how he sometimes portrays himself. I don't necessarily agree with what the guy (Monster Kody) is saying about Cube, but i can somewhat understand why some gang menbers(and former gang members) get upset with some rappers.

Ice Cube, even back in 1991 when he was getting solo interviews, always said he was never a banger, but he saw it growing up. I believe that's enough to write about.

I saw the movie and it was really good. I can see why they had to leave out stuff like JJ Fad and Dee Barnes because the movie itself had to portray the stories of the 5 men in NWA and even THAT was difficult to cover in a two and a half hour movie. BUT they did a great job! Everything that IS in the movie is the truth.

Remember when Jerry was pleading with Eazy "Don't throw Ruthless away! It's an important label!" I am 100% sure he listed off Michel'le along with D.O.C, and Above The Law.

What I am surprised at is that Dre's brother Tyree and Dre's cousin Sir Jinx were casted but not Arabian Prince. He's on the damn album cover of Straight Outta Compton. lol He helped produce NWA and JJ Fad.

Arabian was on the album cover in the movie! lol And on the WCWC part of the story, notice that Cli-N-Tel & Shake'spear were never mention neither?!?

Snoop Dogg makes an obvious appearance, no doubt. nod But how come Warren G (Dre's half-brother) & Nate Dogg didn't? And these guys were guest stars on The Chromic album.

I'm from LA so I am always interested in bio pics that took place here - epsecially during my lifetime lol

It is a good movie. It's true they took some dramatic license (as most bios do) with the story. In order to get it down to 2 hours 20 min, they truncated events, omitted others, and included some names/events while others fell by the way side - but it was a compelling and enjoyable ride overall. NWA is an important group and the movie illustrates just why that is.

I will say this - SOC was cast very well - from the primary roles right down to the cameos by Snoop and Tupac.

reviews:

Critic reviews
Straight Outta Compton covers a lot of ground in recounting N.W.A.'s story. It begins and ends on high notes, though it loses its way in the middle. Full review
Nick Romano·Cinemablend
A conventional music-world biopic in outline, but intensely human and personal in its characterizations and attention to detail. Full review
Scott Foundas·Variety
The film does for the most part fulfill its mission, breathing life into the origin story of a group whose influence is still being felt. Full review
John DeFore·Hollywood Reporter
But what stands is an amazement, an electrifying piece of hip-hop history that speaks urgently to right now. Full review
Peter Travers·Rolling Stone
Straight Outta Compton hurtles toward greatness only to fall short in execution. Yet, aiming high and falling short still results in a very good film. Full review
Kofi Outlaw·Screen Rant
Straight Outta Compton aims to cross cultures and sanctify the wisdom of the street—to make a universal underdog story. It succeeds on a visceral level. Full review
David Edelstein·Vulture
It simplifies N.W.A.’s arc to a gangster-movie knock-off about three friends from way back when who get driven apart by bad influences. Full review
Ignatiy Vishnevetsky·A.V. Club
N.W.A. always got right to the point with its music, so I'll do the same: Simply put, Straight Outta Compton is among the harshest films we've ever reviewed. Full review
Adam R. Holz·Plugged In
In F. Gary Gray’s nuanced film, we see the habitual harassment by police and out-of-control black-on-black gang violence. Full review
This eye-opening and ambitiously scaled docudrama traces the rise of gangsta rap pioneers NWA (N--gaz Wit Attitudes) from its 1986 founding in Compton. Full review
Lou Lumenick·New York Post

as for me i saw the movie twice. while it showed the truths about police brutality and harrassment in compton. imo it does nothing but reinforce the status of the women in a degrading manner.

imo some sort of movement should be started so young afri-american females can realize their strengths are above the shoulders. aka; intelligence is something that the world of gangsta rap seems to discourage amongst the women.

did i like the movie, ahhh no.

I agree!

The actor that played Eazy E did such a good job. But I'm still SMHing at how Ice Cube's son looks like the spitting image of him lol
