For a couple of yearsi've have used iTwin.. The only con about iTwin, firmware / suppot... OS X updates for Mac computers are spotty. One computer has to be on at all times and iTwin doesn't natively support Linux. I'm going to experiment with using a VPN on my router via a Raspberry Pi.

When I first heard about the "cloud" I was suspicious even before reading the eula. I said to myself, "whatever you surrender to them they must have some access to it" and I asked myself, "what's in it for them". Hmmm....everything has a price whether we see it or not.

At the time I wondered what was wrong with using an external HD or a flash drive or even a cd/dvd for offline storage like I have always done? What's the benefit of the cloud? Sure, you have accessability at your fingertips but it seems to me that you also sacrifice a measure of control of your property and possible access to it from lord knows who?

I decided that I have enough room to store what I want right here, but then I was never one to jump on the next big thing just for the hell of it anyway. I'm okay with not having the absolute newest thing out there.

Once you download Win 10 you can't go back to Win 7. If you purchase a Windows 10 computer off the shelf, you can't replace the OS easily. Windows 10 it changes the BIOS of your computer... which makes is impossilbe to use a recovery CD or use Win 7 OS CD software. For those who are still in the Windows 10 30 day trial period... you don't get a 30 grace period, its more like 28

days, after that you can't revert back.

Windows 10 will ship with support for the UEFI Secure Boot standard, just as it did in Windows 8, but this time, the off switch is now optional instead of mandatory. ( UEFI is the replacement to the ancient BIOS firmware) This doesn't shut out Linux, but it does make things harder. Major Linux distros will likely have the VeriSign signature and won't be affected. Also, this will be more of an issue with brand-name PCS – in other words, HP, Dell, and Lenovo.

Your options are to either move to Apple, upload Linux after Win 7 is no longer supported and/or purchase refurbished notebooks or desktop computers and upload Linux. The great thing about Linux, is runs very smoothly on "old" hardware. You could purchsae (via eBay) a virgin new computer (desktop with no OS) and download Linux. I'd advised you to call the manufactor of you computer and purchase Windows 7 reovery CD's. I purchased recovery CD's for my Win 7 Pro notebook soon after HP gave me a notebook.

Section 7b of Microsoft's Services EULA (under “Updates to the Services o...hese Terms”) warns users that Windows 10 “may automatically check your version of the software and download software updates or configuration changes, including those that prevent you from accessing the services, playing counterfeit games, or using unauthorized hardware peripheral devices.”

Windows 10 will monitor users and send regular updates on their activity back to the company, even if they say they wish to share nothing at all.

Thanks for these valuable tips. It's absolutely appalling how they expect people to pay good money for the privilege of letting themselves be monitored by every device they own.

So my next machine will likely be a virgin desktop then. I'm glad to have that option.
