Does Cookie Deserve an Emmy Nomination?

I'm all for black actresses getting their due at Emmy time but I think they're going overboard by giving Taraji P Henson a Best Actress nom for her blaxploitation performance on "Empire".

I'm the first to say how fun "Empire" can be. So much goes on that you can hardly take a breath. It's the textbook definition of what a good soap should be; tawdry, trashy, loud and glitzy. It's good in that respect. It's bad in other ways, such as quality.

I'm also upset because of the black actresses that were up for the nom that got passed over for Taraji's gnawing-the-scenery performance, Gabrielle Union was left out in the cold for her nuanced, messy, extremely complicated and thrilling yet exasperating turn on the very sophisticated yet sudsy "Being Mary Jane".

People were upset because Denzel Washington won an Oscar for his can't miss performance as an evil cop in "Training Day" over other roles like "Malcolm X" and I feel the same way about Taraji.

I have the entire Season of Empire READY to be watched via-DVR but I havent found the time...We all knew Taraji was gonna get an Emmy nod becuz she had THE break-out performance of 2015, hands-down. Critics were SHOCKED that Empire was snubbed for "Best Drama & Best Actor" among other nods...It happens to the Best of Hit shows but I just scrolled through the Entire Emmy-Nod List and they nominated the same'OL shows that people arent even talking about anymore. I wish Tracee Ellis Ross had gotten a "Best Actress in Comedy" nod along side Anthony Anderson's nod for "Best Actor in Comedy"....There's something very special about Tracee..I'm glad Mo'nique got a nod for "Best Supporting Actress in a TV Movie/series"...Mo'nique is going up against Regina King & Angela Bassett. Now that's a Battle of the Titans...

I think Taraji deserves her nomination just as Viola Davis deserves hers, but the real deal is that Kerry Washington should had won for her role in Scandal from day one. Now they don't even nominate her at all? disbelief I'm not a huge fan of Gabrielle Union's acting anyway so I didn't notice when she got snubbed.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

She absolutely deserves the nomination! I'd be surprised if she won, though.

Really?

Maybe it's the writing but in every episode of BMJ there's one of those moments of recognition where you go, "yep, that's so real". I think Gabrielle brings that. I think her problem with some is that she just generally has a cold personality, but it suits the character well because she can be a real bitch sometimes. Hard to believe she was up for Olivia Pope on Scandal. That wouldn't of worked. Kerri brings across the fact that she really loves Fitz after all the BS. I don't think Garielle would be able to do that.

I'm a fan of Viola but not her performance on the show. Sure she's the draw, and it's amazing considering all the stupid stuff that goes on in that show, but let's face it, she over does every single minute she's on screen. But her nomination was a no brainer.

I hear the girl from "Orphan Black" is the one to beat considering she convincingly plays hundreds of characters on that show. Haven't seen it. Must check out.

My favorite is "The Good Wife". I don't care what anyone says about how boring it is or how awful the season was, it just gets better and better and is the smartest, cleverest show on TV. Julianna Marguelies(sp) won last year and like Kerri is totally absent this year. So with Julianna and Garielle missing I kinda have little use for the catagory.

Sometimes I think that kind of character is easy to portray.

I'm not saying she isn't entertaining. But I've seen this character many times before. the lead female in the Game has a similar attitude. I've seen this overthetop character in many different other roles. I don't know if she deserves an Emmy. But she does help the show. Sometimes I think it's too much.

I hate Scandal... it's too over the top, and Kerry Washington gets lost in all the extra drama.

Yes, Cookie deserves the nod, she makes that show

Lee Daniels posted a video of himself on instagram cussing out the Emmy voters for not nominating his show, Taraji won't win, Viola or Tatiana will.

That was hilarious after I watched the first 2 clips. I wish I could check out this show but it's on HBO or something and I don't have HBO. Is it on Hulu or is there any other way to find it online?

Yes She Does! I am a fan of hers
and Empire is my new favorite
drama series. Although, I hope
they tone down the violence and
focus more on the music.

The GREAT Joe "Papa Pope" Morton was nominated in 2014 and he won (He also Won an NAACP Image award in 2014 for "supporting actor" along with the actress that plays Olivia's Mother ,who won "supporting actress")...Joe is a Brilliant Actor and he's the ONLY reason I watch Scandal...It's not every day we get to see an intelligent Black Villain...The Emmys changed the rules this year...If an actor appears in a certain number of shows they don't qualify for "Best Guest Actor"...Hell, Scandal should have campaigned to get Joe placed in the "supporting actor" category.....The Emmys stepped up their game and nominated more Black Actors for their work, but unfortunately the Shows they appear in were snubbed...It's taking decades to balance itself...

Taraji just won The People's choice award, but that awards show isn't a precursor to The Emmys. Taraji said something during a recent Empire Party that prolly will sink her "win"...She said, "I wanna make History, I wanna win"..Hmmmm...I Love her honesty and I don't think there's anything wrong with saying it happily, but voters are Voters....If the voting battle comes down to Taraji Vs Viola the Academy is likely to go with Viola because her Fellow Actors Love her more...That's what it will come down to...Does Taraji know a lot of Fellow Actors that Vote? Viola has been giving us FIRE on Broadway, Silver Screen and now TV...Actors know who she is....

Sure she does. It's hard to name a new television character in 2015 that had the impact Cookie did on TV and pop culture as a whole.
