I saw a story on airline baggage theft last night that was an eye opener.
Why? Not because of the theft, but because people actually put stuff like wallets (w cash & credit cards), jewelry and other items that could easily be in your carry on bag. Why on Earth would anyone put their cash/jewelry in a stored piece of luggage?

When you come back from vacation across the world with all kinds of gifts and valuables for relatives and family. Can't take everything on your carry-on!

So they won't have to declare it when going through security/border. And security does do random checks. If they see anything suspicious in the xray and they want to open and examine the contents .............. you're busted
Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture!

Really, you have to be carefull going through security bag check... folks "pinch" your stuff there too.
Back in the day...my relatives would try and hide anything of value that they had to put in the checked luggage, but it was because the Customs Agents in Honduras would have a field day confiscating stuff. "Sorry but this expensive bottle of perfume looks like something you're going to sell, so you need to pay an import tax on it. Oh you say that is more than what the bottle cost and won't pay? Then we have to take it."
They would actually put maxi pads all throughout the luggage, hoping to gross out the agents and have them move on to the next bag.

i think i'd like your family very much.
A couple of years ago I bought some Cuban cigars home for an Uncel via Spain. The guy told me to take the wrappers off and keep them on my person, but put the cigars -which were in a toobs- inside of my shoes in my suitcase.
