How can I figue out these math problems? (fractions, and others). Ive been studying all day long and I'm stuck! Please h

Ok..the first problem says

Which of these fractions is less than 3/8 and greater than 1/4.

The answer is 5/16...but how do you get that? I need to know in case a similar question comes up

Second problem....A total of $450 was spent on supplies to do this job. The story will charge 6% sales tax on this purchase. Which of these numbers should be multiplied by $450 to find the amount of sales tax charges?

Third problem...Anaylyst have predicted that gasoline prices will increase by 10 % next year. Joe calculated that next year's price in the Western Region (this year its $2.50) will be $5.00 per gallon. What error did he make in his calculation?

Tell me the answers and explain how you got it. I need help really bad.

Thanks.

3/8 = 6/16

1/4 = 2/8 = 3/12 = 4/16

just multiiply whatever number needed to make the bottom number (the denominator) the same.

percentages are decimals. you multiply by 0.06 to find 6 percent of a number. if it was 25 percent you would multiply by 0.25. The number 1 is equal to 100%. If you needed to find 150% of a number you would multiply by 1.5.

He increased the prices by 100% (doubling it) instead of 10%. 2.5 times 2 equals 5. 10% of 2.5 (2.5 x 0.1) is 0.25. The price would be 2.75 when you add the percentage to the current amount.

Ok..I have another question....

A competitor of Applicance House is selling a refrigator (that costs $995.00) for $500 down and $40.00 per month for 18 months. What is the total cost of the refrigerator using this plan?

Just multiply 40 by 18 and add it to the 500 down. That's the cost.

Ok...

The fishermen with the larger catches are listed before the ones with the smaller catches. According to the table, which of these fishermen is in the bottom 25 %?

There are 12 names and the weight of fish they caught from 15.7 kg- 6.0kg. The answer is J.Addai (the 10th out of 12th) but how am I supposed to know about 25%?

3 is 25% (one-fourth) of 12. 10 is 3rd from the bottom.
