What did you get? Anyway, you're in good company, plenty of vinyl lovers here. I think I have as many as you (some collectors have many more of course.) And I'm blessed with a nice little record store only a 5 minute walk from my house. |

I wish I could play my records right now. My turntable of over twenty years finally gave out a few months ago and I still haven't decided on what kind of new model to get. I'd like one that will enable me to create mp3s, but the main obstacle is my computer is in my bedroom and my stereo receiver and rest of my entertainment system is in the living room. It's obviously not practical to run cables between the two rooms and turntables that have their own built-in mp3 encoders look a little cheap in terms of quality. I'd like to avoid moving a high-end turntable from my receiver into the bedroom every time I want to rip a song from vinyl, but I don't see any other solution. |

I just recently read about a major brand (Phillips???) that is making a high-quality turntable at an affordable price ($300).
I can't remember the name but if I come across it again I'll post it.

Thanks. I know there are high end turntables which connect directly to your computer for making MP3s. What I can't find is a high quality one with the encoder built in so I don't have to connect it to my computer to make MP3s.

...and by "high quality" you're automatically discounting the units for sale at Target, right?

Cool!!!
totally! i was garage saleing last fall, and this older couple had a complete, brand new stereo for sale. the entire stereo, four speakers, equalizer, double cassete deck, turntable and all. they wanted twenty$ but i gave them forty five for it. still felt like i was stealing from them. i should have given them a hundred, since i found out later they're 'vintage' and sell on e-bay for two hundred or so.
