Are you folks in the US Northeast ready for the Mother of All Blizzards?

So what is the forecast for your area and what have you done to prepare for it?

Where I am they are predicting a 2-day event that will bring 50 MPH winds and approx 3 feet of snow.

I beat all the last-minute crazies by filling up my gas tank yesterday ($1.99/gallon eek) and buying enough juice, water, canned meat, bread and fruit to last several days. I already had 5 flashlights ready and my house is always loaded with dozens of candles, so I think I'm good to go.

As much as I hate winter with a passion, I actually enjoy ripping through waist-high snowdrifts with my snowblower. It was well worth the investment, getting to watch 20-foot arcs of snow coming from it.

It's hitting the east coast of Canada just as hard, so no, not ready yet. But I have a few more hours to stock up on supplies.

We have had the easiest winter so far...of course we couldn't get away with it all season.

My new car is supposed to be delivered on Wednesday, that probably won't happen now. sad

I fucking hate winter.

It's about time we got a "light" winter. The last several have been miserable.

Of course, it's probably because I finally got a laptop at work, so I can work from home if there's a snow day. If I didn't have the laptop, we'd be getting slammed every week. lol

I'm in Maryland just outside of DC, and the weather reports claim we will get one to three inches by tomorrow morning. If that happens, schools will be closed. DC and surrounding areas go ape shit with the first sign of the first snow flake. All network channels damn near preempt everything to cover "the storm." It's really ridiculous the way they just go overboard with the weather reporting 24/7. I remember when I was a kid growing up in central NJ, in order for schools to be closed there had to be at least 6 inches of snow on the ground. Here in the DC metro area, one inch is cause for alarm. rolleyes

My school closed at 12... At the time we had gotten bewtween a dusting and an inch.
My sister and I went to the diner, and by the time we finished eating it was coming down hard...
The blizzard is in full effect now (6:15pm).

They're talking about a minimum of two feet in this part of NJ.

I live in Hartford County CT and we are expecting 3' of snow! I have a gas stove so even if I lose power I can still cook. We have a fireplace and a full cord of wood stacked in my garage so heat will not be an issue.

I feel sorry for my dog Lucy she is a Chihuahua and will NOT like that much snow. So I'll spend most of the time making sure she has a safe spot to do her business.

Howdy neighbor! I had a Papillon, so I'm familiar with the challenges you've described with Lucy. smile

In 2013 when we had a blizzard, I was fostering my sisters dog Buddy a Border Collie / Collie mix and he would make a decent path for the both of them and made sure she didn't wander too far off the path he made. But he has returned home and now Miss Lucy has to fend for herself.

thumbs up! Gotta love a Border Collie, the most intelligent dog God made. I'm also fond of Labs, another great dog. I used to know one named "Ben," and he would escort all the old ladies in my neighborhood to the mailbox and back.

I was thinking about you and wondering if you got hit hard. Stay safe and warm. hug

As I predicted, we only got about two inches at the most, and low and behold, the Dupont Adventist School CLOSED! rolleyes

I like the way our local forecaster keeps saying this morning that the storm was as powerful as predicted, but it was so strong that it "sucked all the snow into the eye" which is why we got only about 10" instead of the predicted 3 feet. hrmph

that reminds me how we never report on a storm once it heads over the border............I wish I were born in Canada - seems so much better there
