iTunes Review haters...why???

Oh here, let me just ditch the project I've been working on for x number of years and get right back into the studio and create 80 minutes of rehashes of the only kinds of songs you think I should record. Oh yeah, that'll feed my spirit and keep my mind engaged. Oh yeah, I just can't wait to walk lock-step into the stepford artist portait you have hanging on your wall, a blank cutout space where my presence ought to be. Because yep, you pay all my bills so I should pay you all my mind.

Yep, this rant brought to you by sarcasm and tired of yo' ish. biggrin I seriously want to throw darts at all these "it's not exactly like the same old song I heard a thousand times so it's worth less than zero" reviews I see on iTunes. Honestly, I don't know how we have raised an entire generation of 20/30-something that act older than my grandmother did. Is the green from the lawn we all should get off of really that intoxicating? Oh, and if you have ever done that on iTunes, you need to turn off all your computers and devices and donate them to a charity that will use them for actual good.

Since it seems like the convention from the planet DERP have arrived on this discussion thread, let me spell it out for you in exact, literal terms--I'll s-p-e-a-k r-e-e-e-e-a-a-a-l s-l-o-o-o-w-ly so as to not tax your tired minds any more (and I'm fully cognizant that the very people I wrote the rant about are on this site making things uncomfortable for us all:

I hate it when people on iTunes give one-star reviews that are accompanied by texts about how music (in this case D'Angelo, but there are too many others just like it to count) from an artist doesn't do it for them unless it's the same song style or material rehashed fifty-leven times. Like people here on the org who say that Prince should only record certain types of music.

There...DID THAT MAKE IT CLEARER THE ORG CONVENTION FROM THE PLANET DERP??? fryingpan fryingpan fryingpan fryingpan fryingpan fryingpan fryingpan fryingpan fryingpan fryingpan

In case you haven't guessed by now, I'm not an org hater, but I'm not exactly a lover of it, either.

Spoken like someone who would write such reviews on iTunes. Over at certain FB pages, they are making the same kinds of reviews, calling certain albums "garbage" and all that. Anyone trained in writing critique knowqs that calling something "garbage" is not an opinion, it's an emotional outburst. It's also an emotional outburst/reaction to call anything that isn't in an artist's "glory years" sub-par. You can also know that it's a reaction when you hear the person star their comments with phrases such as "I feel like" or "what x should have done." If I was running the org, those reviews would never see the light of day.

Dude, you're seriously fighting with yourself in this thread.

Interesting that you criticize emotional posts yet your posts on here have been perfect examples of emotional outbursts.

Nah, just making my thoughts known on the subject. See, I was on the org years ago, posting threads about subjects that people wouldn't talk about at the time, but now I look some of the postings and see these same subjects discussed quite often. Just because people aren't taking this one on doesn't mean it's not being mulled over. I don't need the credit, because truth is truth.

Look. I like 'Black Messiah', but I can totally see how ppl wouldn't like it and would compare it unfavourably with 'Voodoo' (which is definitely a better album, after all). There's nothing wrong with ppl who really liked 'Voodoo' wishing D'Angelo's new album was more like 'Voodoo'. smile

If people write bad reviews to something that isn't actually bad, those that appreciate it will drown out those solitary voices.. that's always the case.

Now if the album isn't all that great in reality, then you will of course have a statistically higher average of "haters".

Change it one more time..

It's not about any one album or any one artist, but about one type of hater. Sometimes I wish that a person's reviews could be deleted if they haven't purchased the album before making the review.

You know sometime negative reviews help me find good music.
There are some professional reviewers who I know If they give a negative review it is going to be fantastic.
like any review of soul or r&b music that does not appear in urban press is usually bad and I can tell how good it will be by these bad reviews.
Eg ; Rolling stone magazine is notorious for not knowing anything about anything that isn't directly influenced by the Beatles or rock n roll.

I hear you, but these are professional reviewers. The iTunes crowd seems to have difficulty stringing together 10 words to make a single sentence. I should consider the source and move on, but if you open your mouth and say stupid ish, expect to be corrected.

lol reviews are not always what they seem. i once had an author tell me he writes rave reviews of his own work. so if you dislike the reviews you find, why not write a bunch rave reviews for your own project?

The great Walt Whitman used to write bad reviews of his poetry on purpose, presumably to get more people to read, and Leaves of Grass is perhaps the most read book of poetry that's ever existed. But I doubt that he ever knew how to make himself sound as stupid as some of the idiots on iTunes.
