Big Hero 6 (2014)

I love this movie. I give it an 83 out of 89.

Another great Powell and Pressburger film, and proof that England at that time had talent LOL.

This 1943 film was not liked by then English Prime minister Winston Churchil as it portrays one of the German characters sympathetically. This point of the film, along with some others, are what make it great.

It is too long and slow to get going, but stay with it as it's a lovely film about an old fashioned imperial England that was changing and an England that just does not exist anymore. It is really also just about the relationship about 2 people.

The lead by Roger Livesey is great, and pretty boy Anton Walbook abit of a revelation as he actually does some very good acting in this. His speeches at the end are very touching (and in real life close to home according to reports).

An ususual subject matter and a daring film for it's time. Well worth seeing.

And there is no colonal blimp in the film LOL.

Interstellar 4/5 Poor man's Matt Damon was actually Matt Damon. Anne Hathaway's eyes miraculously didn't fall out and roll away even when she was crying. The dad from Harry and the Hendersons is in it (thumbs up from my boys). Hal IS the monolith Pipe organs, fuck yeah!

Not to flog the topic, but I do think We Are the Best is incredibly good at capturing what it’s like to be an awkward, kinda goofy square peg. I’ll always value movies that tell stories like that. In some ways it reminds me of another movie I enjoyed recently called This is Martin Bonner that told the story of a guy in his late fifties who was trying to start his life over. Obviously very different in who the characters are and where they are in their lives, but much the same in that the movie didn’t make any Grand Pronouncements or have any chase sequences or Mexican stand-offs, but instead just created realistic, believable, relatable people working through their lives.

I actually almost talked myself out of it after seeing some of the so-so reviews - i was leaning towards Big Hero 6 or John Mack - but Interstellar seems like a movie that demands the big screen & the big sound system, so I'm locking myself into that choice.

My theater had the film on very loud. We all had to cover our ears often. All my kids are still mulling over the concepts in the film, they were very impressed by it - they easily suspended their disbelief. You will enjoy it and appreciate the 2001 references

When the music was playing, could you hear any dialogue? We couldn't. I talked to the theater management and they said the problem was the print of the movie they received, and there wasn't anything they could do about it unless they got another copy with proper audio.

There have been quite a few stories circulating about sound issues & dialogue being lost in the score.

Wow, thanks! I was going to give you a heads-up about this if it turned out ZK couldn't hear the dialogue too. But I'm glad you were ahead of the curve! Check with the theater if you can about the sound ahead of time, because there are some pretty key moments I couldn't hear. Especially one speech by Michael Caine which is central to the entire plot.

Did you or Zombie see it in IMAX or RPX? I didn't and I had no problem hearing the whole thing. IMAX gives me a headache and I don't like it that loud.

I didn’t make it out to the theatre (work, the real world, all that boring stuff kept me away), so I watched the Prestige at home instead. Though the big plot development sat a little funny with me, I really liked it (let’s call it a 4/5) and would probably rate it as the 2^nd best movie Christopher Nolan’s made.

I was watching one of Mark Kermode’s reviews recently (I think it was on DKR) and he said something that I think is very true: whatever flaws Nolan’s films may have, he’s proven that you can make expensive movies that are ambitious & intricate and not completely mindless and still make your studio’s budget back. I don’t know what I’ll end up thinking of Interstellar, but I’m happy that it’s out there.

The One I Love - 3.5/5 Didn't quite come together in a satisfying way for me, but it was fairly original & interesting all the way through. I think I slightly prefer Coherence, which contained some similar Twilight Zone'ish plot elements.

I wish it was made in the mid to late 60´s though....for some reason I love sci-fi movies from the mid 60s to 70s...or newer ones. The early 60s movie often look very cheap. But this definitely caught my interest.

I saw it at a regular theater which, thankfully, gave me a free glass of wine to go with my own whine!

Mud...starring Matthew McConaughey.

Absolutely not what I expected even though I had read the description before watching it. I expected it to be a bit more action-laden, more gruesome, more thrilling, whatever....but it turned out to be an extremely slooooooooooow movie, and it is definitely more of a coming-of-age movie than a thriller.

I liked it a lot and it´s interesting to see Matthew McConaughey develop from what I would call a surfer boy who likes to flaunt his muscles into a very serious and dedicated actor over the years. I also liked Dallas Buyers´ Club and pretty much most other movies he´s starred in in the past couple of years and I think he´s on a good path.

This movie reminded me a lot of that Stephen King story "Stand By Me", and also a little bit of some Cohen Bros. movies but I don´t really know why because this one is not even remotely funny.

Really slow but good movie. I´d recommend watching this.

I don't think you'll encounter a shortage of cheap. When a pilot/astronaut is walking a field and suddenly spots a protective city it's no more than a crude painting on paper that matches nothing, including the full frame. It was then that I knew I was going to have a good time!

Well, what can I say? It´s black and white, and VERY cheaply made. Had to stop watching it.

A Field In England - Incredibly odd, trippy film set in the English civil war. As if Eraserhead, El Topo, The Man Who Fell To Earth, & the psychedelic elements of 2001 were put through a meat grinder and formed into a costume drama on mushrooms. Not for everyone I’m pretty sure, but I thought it was great demented fun. 4.5/5
