Cats beware of lilies and antifreeze

There aren't really a lot of foods or plants in the house that cats are stupid enough to eat. (Dogs, on the other hand...) The one huge exception to this is lilies. Even chewing on the stems of a flower arrangement (which many cats will do) can cause renal failure. One of my internal med professors, who should absolutely have known better, gave his wife a flower arrangement that included lilies and then had to hospitalize his cat.

A friend of mine in vet school had a cat that nearly died when a stereo speaker fell on its head. The cat survived, but was never the same afterward.

If the cat has access to an attached garage, licking anti-freeze from the floor will kill it. It doesn't even take that much.
What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

nod As a cat owner, I am well aware of the toxicity of lillies and antifreeze. A couple that I pet sit for lost a cat after the cat ate a plant that was in their house. I don't know which plant it was, but the cat suffered kidney failure, and wound up passing away. I don't keep plants in my house purposely, because I know that my cats will knock them over, chew on them, etc. It's not worth the aggravation, plus, I seem to have a knack of killing plants unintentionally. lol

RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

NASA did studies on which plants produce the most oxygen. You can find lists online. Unfortunately, many of the plants are not safe for kitty's.

sad Yet another reason why people should not allow their cats to roam.
