Do you realize how many versions of each girl/woman that existences in their respect comic universes?

Worst yet, do you remember how many times Supergirl debuted?!? disbelief lol And lets not forget that she was killed years before her cousin Superman was "killed" by Doomsday.

Yeah I know, thats comics for ya. But that also go's for the males too. How many Spiderman and different X-Men are out there? But like I said I don't mind female versions as long as it's not meant to replace.

I disagree. Comic book sales today are a fraction of what they once were. Unless it's an A-list character, it's highly unlikely a series will have a substantial run. Black Widow and Elektra both currently star in their own solo titles and despite the exposure of appearing in multiple films, both titles are struggling. If those two can barely hold their own, what chance does a Sif or Valkyrie solo series have?

I suppose my interest here is a literary one. From a business standpoint, though, I've no doubt you're absolutely correct. Makes me sad, though.

Two things I wonder...

1. How well was Thor doing in sales prior to this narrative arc?

2. How well might a limited series showcasing a female Asgardian do? I wonder if the sheer novelty of such a thing might result in decent sales. (Albeit probably less immediate press interest.)

Here is a link to sales numbers to comic book stores for the month of June 2014 which I think represents a typical month for the industry this year. http://www.comichron.com/...4-06.html

The old Thor: God of Thunder series is at #55 with 36,000 copies shipped while comics in the top ten ship around 70,000 to 100,000+. When a Marvel comic's numbers dip to the lower 20ks, that's when it gets considered for cancellation so Thor was doing okay before the relaunch. I believe all the Marvel titles in that June 2014 link that are below the 20k mark have already been canceled with the exception of the Miracleman reprint title. DC gives its books lower cancellation threshold numbers.

Next thing you know, we'll have Jane Bond taking over and Mr Monneypeny as her secretary. But even though I don't give a damn about superheroes (regardless of my username), this is interesting. Is this feminism or sexism? confuse [Edited 10/11/14 8:25am]

The cool thing about the James Bond world is that there are 00 agents male and female.
I always thought in any genre that background stories/characters were interesting.

She looks awesome, but, yeah, I think this is kind of lame. There are plenty of very powerful female Norse characters who could support their own title.

That's why introducing a Valkyrie thru the Thor comics would be more interesting too me

The story of Thor in Marvel has always had a sub-plot of Odin grooming Thor for his role as Skyfather.

In Marvel Earth-616 canon, Thor was introduced in a story where a crippled man named Dr. Donald Blake encountered a group of powerful enemies. As he ducked into a cave for shelter, he found a stick and hit it against a rock. That stick turned into Mjolnir and Dr. Donald Blake turned into Thor. More specifically, it was Dr. Donald Blake's mind with Thor's body and powers.

Fast forward a bit, and we find out that Blake was actually CREATED by Odin. A constructed human used to trick Thor into living the life of a mortal.

Thor will be a woman. Legitimately. Just as Thor lived the life of a crippled Dr. with honor and integrity.

There are many female characters in the Marvel Thor mythos that carried over from Norse legend, and those that have not. There are Valkierie, Tarene, Jane Foster, Sif, Frigga, Hela, Karnilla, Gaea, Angela, and others. Powerful, storied, and unique in their own way.

Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another
