I'd also like to make note of the geographical vicinities of many of the teams. There could be a Beltway World Series between the Orioles and Nationals. Or an I-70 Series between the Cardinals and Royals. Or a Freeway Series between the Dodgers and Angels. And Pittsburgh is not that far away from Detroit either. It's an embarrassment of riches for some areas of the country this year.

Edit: I forgot about a Bay Bridge series between the A's and Giants. The regional rivalry matchup possibilities this year are ridiculous.

And FOUR California teams! That's overkill. What happened Padres? Couldn't you guys make the postseason too?

[Edited 9/30/14 12:08pm]

I remember the I-70 series in 1985 between the Royals and Cardinals. That was the
golden era of baseball as well as the 70's.

NLDS Game 1: STL 10, LAD 9

W: Marco Gonzales (1-0, 0.00 ERA)

L: Clayton Kershaw (0-1, 10.80 ERA)

This was almost as crazy as the Royals wild card game.

ALDS Game 2: KC 4, LAA 1

W: Brandon Finnegan (1-0, 0.00 ERA)

L: Kevin Jepsen (0-1, 10.80 ERA)

I knew when the game went into extra innings again that Kansas City had the Angels right where they wanted them.

I am so sick and tired of dumb ass Don Mattingly. Kershaw must take some of the blame, but it's Mattingly's job to MANAGE the team. Kershaw was DONE. 96 degree heat, close to 100 pitches when the inning of destruction began; he had already struck out 10, done his job. NO WAY should he have stayed in after giving up FIVE consecutive singles, with the bases still loaded, and Carpenter (who already homered off of him and has "history" against him) coming up to the plate. Then, to top it all off, you bring in Pedro Baez, who has maybe 20 innings of MLB experience, a converted third basemen who really has no business being on the roster for this series, and he promptly walks a batter and gives up a 3R bomb to seal it. I love my Dodgers, but part of me hopes we get swept...maybe then Mattingly gets his walking papers (PLEASE!!!!!).

It was written prior to the series that Kenley Jansen would be called upon to pitch more than his usual one inning of relief when the situation called for it. Are you telling me that Jansen, who hasnt pitched in over a week, couldnt pitch two innings with a day off tomorrow? So Mattingly brings in JP Howell, who has been good but overused, and has shown lately that he cannot be relied upon as he was in June and July. Result...single, 2R homer, tie game, Zack Greinke robbed of a much deserved postseason victory, and the Dodgers suddenly in danger of going to St Louis down 0-2. Yeah, there were lefty matchups to consider, but Jansen has been getting out lefties all year, and it's OCTOBER dammit...you go with your best! That being said, way to go Matthew!! Once again, as they have for most of the last two seasons, the Dodgers win IN SPITE of their "manager".

Damn, I'm guessing Mattingly won't be winning a manager of the year award anytime soon. Now I see why the Yankees passed him over in favor of Joe Girardi.

18 innings...6 hours and 23 minutes of pure baseball torture by the Giants and Nationals. It was a bit nerve-racking. I'm so glad the Giants won, since they had more than enough opportunities to do so. I was really happy that my boo Brandon Belt hit the winning homerun. smile I'm hoping to attend Game 3 tomorrow, which would be my first time attending a postseason game.

I didn't expect Detroit to go out like that. Buck Showalter could get his first World Series ring after just missing out with both the Yankees and Diamondbacks.

Yankees wouldnt even talk to Mattingly, basically told Joe Torre, "Uh...can you take this guy with you on your way out the door?" That's how he got the job in LA...it was written in Torre's contract that when he steps away, Mattingly gets the gig...and I've been growling about it for the last four years.

The big bad LA Angels with the best record in MLB this year--SWEPT. And by the Royals no less. Trout, Pujols, Kendrick and Hamilton went something like 5-50 in their combined at-bats for the entire series. Game 3 starting pitcher C.J. Wilson pulled after 2/3 of an inning. Embarrassing.

Hey, it's an even year so The Giants had to come back. razz The Giants other long time rival Cardinals will be classic old school ball. I want Buster Posey to stop thinking he can steal a base. He's made my heart bad three times this series. lol
