Video showing New Jersey bear walking like a human goes viral

bear looks just like a big, hairy person just walkin down the street. on a dark night i dunno i'd see the difference from a distance.

is this an evolutionary quirk or has this bear been genetically engineered? perhaps it escaped from a secret laboratory where they're teaching bears to walk, talk, tap dance and play poker? what's up with that

Apparently, bears do a lot of things in the woods, including walking upright like a human.

A home video showing a black bear on its hind legs has been viewed on YouTube than 52,000 times.

The New Jersey black bear strolls across a street, peeks into a trash can and generally just ambles along in a Jefferson Township neighborhood.

A woman who answered the phone after hours at the Jefferson police department, but declined to giver her name, laughed when the Daily News called for comment.

“We’ve all seen it here in the office,” she said of the video.

Asked if upright bears were out of the ordinary, she said it was very normal.

“We all know there is an injured bear in town,” she said.

Hurt bears often walk on their hind legs to “compensate for their wounded paws, legs, whatever,” she said.

Exactly! I think it's a good explanation. Maybe lots of bears with wounded front paw have been walking about.

The bear's front right paw is injured and it can't walk very long on all fours. There are plenty of videos that show this.

LOL. Like I said, there are plenty of videos, as well as testimony from people that live where the bear is seen, that show the bear's right front paw is injured.

My only question is why they haven't tranquilized the bear so they can fix its paw. It just flaps, like maybe its wrist (or equivalent) is broken.
