‘Scream’ TV Show Reveals Cast, Director & Characters

Wes Craven Says Scream 5 Is Happening Scream TV Show Reveals Cast, Director & Characters

“Do you like scary movies?”

In the roughly 18 years since it first released, Scream has earned its place as a modern horror classic. Sure, the sequels were never able to recapture what made the first so frighteningly fun, and Ghostface has been lampooned in countless parodies, but Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson’s Scream still holds up as a slasher flick that both celebrates and mocks the genre.

As it turns out, Scream is also the next property getting a new spin on life as an MTV teen drama. Following in the steps of the very successful Teen Wolf, this series based on the Scream franchise will again follow a group of teens as their town is terrorized by a serial killer in that iconic “ghost face” mask. It’ll have no connection or overlap with the film franchise, and series executive producer Harvey Weinstein has previously teased that the TV series maydelve more into the supernatural than the films ever did.

After first being announced a couple years ago, the past few months have seen more concrete details emerge about the series’ plot and characters. The Scream TV series will be populated by the typical teenager stereotypes – the pretty introvert, the artsy loner, and the tech-savvy geek – but will also have its premise rebooted for the times when it’s a viral video on YouTube that kicks off the killing spree.

According to THR, the show will star Willa Fitzgerald (Royal Pains) as that pretty girl who’s “a little too introverted and intellectual to be a social butterfly.” Joining her are Amy Forsyth (Reign), John Karna (The Neighbors), Carlson Young (The Kroll Show) and newcomer Amadeus Serafini to round out the cast of hunted teenagers.

Fitzgerald’s role is that of Emma Duval (originally Harper in those early casting descriptions), and if her character reminds you of Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott, well, it’s likely the similarities are intentional. Fitzgerald’s character will be the series’ lead, and just like Sidney before her, will find herself the target of Ghostface’s murder spree.

Forsyth will play Emma’s former best friend, Audrey Jensen, an “artsy loner” who’s also bi-curious and the daughter of a Lutheran pastor. Audrey’s close friend Noah Foster, a techie with tons of pop culture knowledge (think “Randy” from the first two movies), will be played by Karna, and Young is playing Brooke Maddox, the lead popular guy.

Lastly, Serafini is the mysterious new kid in town with a real dark side, Kieran Wilcox. We’ll begin taking bets now on which of these four turns out to be the killer (or killers?).

THR
is also reporting Jamie Travis (Faking It) is directing the pilot from a script Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin (Criminal Minds, Revenge) wrote with Jill Blotevogel (Harper’s Island, Ravenswood), who’s also exec producing and serving as showrunner. Originally, it had been rumored Wes Craven would return to direct the pilot, but he – along with Bob and Harvey Weinstein, Marianne Maddalena and Cathy Konrad – will only return as executive producers.

Seeing that MTV has successfully rebooted Teen Wolf as a dark, teen drama with a cast of unreasonably attractive young stars, how do you think Scream will work in this same formula? Is a TV series a better direction for the franchise then continuing with Scream 5? Sound off in the comments below!

Scream
is expected to air in 2015 on MTV.

yawn

Is this really necessary?

Didn't all the sequels beat this story into the ground enough?

By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!
