R. Kelly's 14-year-old Jaya comes out as transgender

R. Kelly's 14-year-old Jaya comes out as transgender and reveals the singer hasn't spoken to him since he announced he's a boy

  • Jay Kelly, who was born biologically female and named Jaya, announced that he is transgender on social media sites
  • He said he has known since he was '6 or 7' that he was a boy
  • His mother, Andrea Kelly from 'Hollywood Exes', has known for about a year and has been supportive, he said
  • But he has not spoken to his singer father about the revelations

By Lydia Warren

R. Kelly's 14-year-old child, Jaya, has come out as transgender and changed his name to 'Jay'.

The brave teen made the announcement on his social media pages over the weekend and also revealed that his singer dad has yet to speak to him since the revelation.

Responding to questions on his Ask.fm profile, Jay explained that although he was born biologically female, he has identified as a male since he was '6 or 7' and that his mother has known for a year.

His mom Andrea Kelly, the singer's ex-wife and star of reality series 'Hollywood Exes', has been supportive of his transition and has proudly shared pictures of them together online.

Proud: Jay Kelly, whose father is singer R. Kelly, has revealed that he is female-to-male transgender and living as a boy. He said that he is not close to his father and they have not spoken about his announcement

'My mom was like, "Baby, you know I love you if you were bi, gay, lesbian, you name it and I would still love you so much",' he wrote.

'She was very proud of me, I was like, "Thank you mom for accepting the fact that I'm a transgender".'

'And same with my sister, she told me that she was proud of me, and respects me by calling me handsome and calling me her little brother now, and I love her for that, so you know it was great for me.'

He added that he is eager to undergo the gender realignment operations but that he knows he'll have to wait for several years.

Support: His mom, Andrea Kelly, who stars on 'Hollywood Exes', has been supportive of his announcement

Loved: Jay, right, said that his older sister Joann, left, has also told him that she is proud of him

'I believe I am a boy and want surgery, and the medication to help me (be) who I was supposed to be,' he wrote.

From a very young age he knew he did not want to be a girl, wear dresses, grow his hair long or have breasts or female sexual organs, he explained on Ask.fm.

Aged 11, 'I would look up like boy changes to girl, and girl changes to boy, and im like wow, theres people who feel EXACTLY the way i feel and then i knew like thats what transgender is,' he wrote.

He added that he was about six when he knew he was attracted to girls - but he has no plans to date any just yet, adding: 'I've got a lot on my plate right now.'

Silence: R. Kelly, who divorced Jay's mother in 2009, has not spoken to him about his announcement

His father has yet to publicly comment on the teen's announcement, but Jay revealed on Ask.fm that he and his sister are not close to the singer, even though their older brother is.

He added: 'I absolutely love my mother... and yea my dad has not reached out.'

R. Kelly divorced Jay's mother, who had been his former backup dancer, in 2009 after almost 13 years of marriage.

Really now? So what happened here:

None of what you've said, of which I don't find comical at all. Generally KingBAD, you know I respect your opinions but there's no blame in this. Not even for R. Kelly. I'm just more than a bit annoyed at people on the internet making light of the situation, at that child's expense for shit and giggles. shrug

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Mental illness. Theres nothing wrong with being gay and liking what you like, but when you think youre something youre clearly not when you look in the mirror, youre mentally ill. Wouldnt be surprised if all these cases are because of flouride in the water and vaccinations and things making children more mentally ill.

I can't believe her and R got divorced in 09? she should have left him along time ago. He's been humpin around like crazy since the 90's and early 00's. And then there's the sex tape... not only was he with an underage girl. But was cheating on his wife... why she stayed with him i'll never understand.

14 is way too young to allow a kid to make such a choice. If he had any type of medical procdure, the doctors and parent/s must be nuts to allow such a thing. Unbelievable.

So you rather have him deny who he is. Which will cause gender dysphormia. Which will then cause the teen who to have very low self esteem. sounds like a slippery slope but it is a reality. Alot of teens who identify as transgender will commit suicide if not allowed to transition.

the person making fun of the term transphobic has no idea what is to be transgender. thier flippant attempt at making a point reflects their knowledge on the topic.

All I know is kids growing up today are exposed to many different things that our young impressionable minds weren't.
We were sent outta the room when 'big people are talking',didn't have access to non PG films/tv/web/porn etc etc
And no I'm not a phobe of any kind & believe everyone has the right to live how they like as long as it's not hurting any one.
But I do think there's a hidden hand and agendas behind a lot of the culture/media etc
"We just let people talk & say whatever they want 2 say. 9 times out of 10, trust me, what's out there now, I wouldn't give nary one of these folks the time of day. That's why I don't say anything back, because there's so much that's wrong" - P, Dec '15

Not to mention what's in the food, water, medication etc etc.
Sexualization/objectification of children starting from a very young age.
Molding of good little conformist insecure consumers.
Look at the type of heroes/pop stars they ram down their throats.
God forbid you try to be an individual, that ain't cool now.
As for this little girl I have no idea if she would have felt the same way growing up in the past but I wouldn't be in a rush to stuff her with drugs or have major irreversible surgery.

this site has turned into a place where folks loose sight

of the fact that everybody don't have to be gay happy...

i don't HAVE to agree with the gay agenda, or the pediphile

agenda, or the beatiality agenda...

i don't have to like anything about what these people do.

AND i have the right to have an opinion about what they do and

how it affects my community and the kids in it.

i know gay people, they are not my friends and we are

harmonious among oneanother. i also have white friends

and i am BLACK and all for BLACK causes above all others.

that don't make me a whitiephobe or any other kind of phobe.

the fact that the word get's dropped so much is proof of the

kind of agenda that is bein followed.

everyone/kids now has to worry about bein labeled as some

kind of freak because they get hit on by samesex proponents

and feel if they don't accept this UNWANTED ATTENTION

they will be accused of bein IN FEAR with no real reason.

so when y'all speak of the emotional trauma that may lead to mental

illness, think of how PHOBISM is created for them...

i heard how y'all claimed that dragon trainer 2 was such an

out in the open message and those that didn't appreciate it were 'phobic'

and there could be no agenda attached to it. HOWEVER,

it's funny that not one traile for it brings up this REVOLUTIONARY

BREAKTHROUGH, why? shit, if you gonna be proud and open

that should have been the main sellin point... instead it looks to me

that thats a thing for unsuspectin patrons were left to handle with their kids,

leavin them in yet another dificult position of havin to let it slide

or be labeled homophobic by their own kids who have been doctrenated

to be acceptin of somethin they not comfortable with... you know

like when uncle billy wants you to touch him and keep it a secret...

oooops, didn't mean to hit home with you personally...

call me what you will...

your likin or dislikin of me changes my day NONEWHUTSOEVER!!! PEACE

Co-sign. People can choose to feel whatever way they want about gay people and I have no problem if the rationale behind the reason for not being for them is sound but saying someone has an agenda shows a lack of understanding and a brick wall is hit because it also shows that the person doesn't want to understand either.

I don't know much either but I think "Transgender" usually refers to people who haven't gone through medical procedure. I don't think everyone must find this story "wonderful" And I also don't think people who are more concerned about this child than happy for him are automatically "phobic people"... but I think maybe you guys would find this video interesting and helpful... =D!
