Movie – Cement Garden, even though it’s a flawed movie, maybe by some standards not even a particularly good film, it’s stayed with me for decades now and I still go back to it every few years.

TV Show – Twilight Zone

Actor – Phillip Seymor Hoffman I suppose. I always enjoyed watching him, and his presence could make me sit through a film I’d otherwise never have any interest in viewing.

Actress – Aubrey Plaza, maybe…there’s more than a little pervy motivation in that choice if we’re being honest.

Play – I can’t really name one, but like you, Ace (I think), I am a big Neil Labute fan, & I like a lot of his film adaptations of his own works.

Book – Adventures Among Ants by Mark Moffett. I also have to mention Steven Pinker’s The Better Angels of Our Nature, which is a book that I recommend to anyone who will listen.

Song – Teenage Kicks by the Undertones.

Musical Artist – the Fall

Standup Comedian – Steven Wright

Radio Show –Planet Money is an NPR podcast that I really like. I don’t think it’s a true radio show, but I think some (perhaps all?) of its material gets broadcast on other NPR shows. The CBC radio shows Brave New Waves and Nightlines were big musical influences on me when I was younger.

City or Town – Banff

Philosopher – Peter Singer

Never hoid of it. Will try and look into it. nod

Yeah, he was great. What a waste. sad

Actress – Aubrey Plaza, maybe…there’s more than a little pervy motivation in that choice if we’re being honest.

I love her, too! And there's more than a little pervy motivation for me, as well. jerkoff There's something very sexy about her.

Have you seen Safety Not Guaranteed?

Play – I can’t really name one, but like you, Ace (I think), I am a big Neil Labute fan, & I like a lot of his film adaptations of his own works.

He's a cynical bastard, but so am I. lol

Book – Adventures Among Ants by Mark Moffett. I also have to mention Steven Pinker’s The Better Angels of Our Nature, which is a book that I recommend to anyone who will listen.

Again, never heard of these, but I will try and look into them!

Song – Teenage Kicks by the Undertones.

That is a catchy one. nod guitar

Musical Artist – the Fall

Did you ever hear Mark E. Smith's collaboration with Elastica?

Standup Comedian – Steven Wright

'How 'bout those Stones? Still doin' it after all these years... Fred and Barney.'

I was a big Nightlines listener and then, later, somewhat of a big BNW listener.

I haven't seen Blue Jasmin, but I'm dying to see it. I haven't had much free time the last 3 months.

Yes, it's Tina Fey's book. A funny easy read about being a boss at SNL.

For me The kings of comedy will be George Carlin and Richard Pryor.

Other comedians have moments like Red Foxx, Roseanne, Elayne Boosler, Chris Rock, and Rita Rudner. (As you can see I like a variety). Even Joan Rivers in the 80's had a real funny stand up act as featured in the book Heidi Ambromowitz. Her insult jokes in this book over a fictional character are now standard jokes we have all heard at one point.(Basically the ultimate dumb blond and slut jokes.)

Seinfeld is brilliant. I also love I Love Lucy, Roseanne, The Cosby Show, All In The Family, AF, coupling, Frasier, Will & Grace...I could go on. I'm a slut for comedy!

The Balcony starring Shelly Winters, Peter Faulk, and Leonard Nimoy.

Based on absurdist play.

Released in 1963.

Most of the movie takes place in a whore house in which the Madame(Shelly Winters) allows customers to act out their sexual fantasies.

To quote WIKI:

"'The Balcony' is recommended for those who like an enigma of a film, one that tugs at your subconscious long after the titles fade. It’s a film that reaches to the very heart of why our society works in the way it does, and presents unrelenting questions and dilemmas."[6]

I think Wiki sums it up nicely, plus you get girl on girl kiss in 1963!!! It's a slower film, but it pays off in the last 5mins of the film. The film cuts deep and questions all that society upholds.

Thanks! Yeah, I like Chris Rock and Joan Rivers, too! If you like Roseanne, you might want to check out the interview she did with Howard Stern the other day.

I have - big fan of that movie (though i did crinkle my nose at the ending the first time i watched it), and I thought she was dead sexy in it.

Ace Said: Did you ever hear Mark E. Smith's collaboration with Elastica?

Now that I had not heard - from the 2nd album, I guess. I did like that first Elastica record, but by the time they got around to making a second one I guess I'd moved on to other things. I just gave it a listen on yt, and wasn't too excited by what I heard, but it was going through my tinny laptop speakers, and it deserves a proper listen when i get home tonight.
