In China, Pork Fat Inspires Poetry, Art and Literature

http://blogs.wsj.com/chin...m=referral

I use to love carnitas and pork roast, but whatever they're doing to pork now I can't stand the taste or the smell. I no longer eat them. I'm sad. I've discovered though I really like bacon its only in a BLT or standing alone with eggs or pancakes, not in, on, covered by or wrapped around anything. I'm losing it I think.

Anyway.

The book also features a chapter with celebrities’ reflections on the food, such as the quip by actress Liu Xiaoqing that “a little pork fat can make you more beautiful.” Actor Yu Entai was also quoted in the book, saying that “other people’s meat always tastes better; girls next door are always prettier.”

When he had all of his submissions, Mr. Zhu headed to his local market and bought the fattiest piece of pork he could find. He then went ahead and scanned the meat to make the cover for the new book, which was sold wrapped in cellophane, as though it was a piece of meat. Next up for Mr. Zhu? He says he’s planning to put together a book on tofu, another beloved Chinese staple.
