Saturday Night Live

Bobby Moynihan

Cecily Strong

Just who, exactly, are these people blowing? Neither of them has made me laugh even once. These are two of the best sketch comedians available right now? confused

This is one weak-ass cast, man. The only stand-outs:

Jay Pharoah

Kate McKinnon

Taran Killam

Kenan Thompson

Cecily Strong is pretty good, IMO.

I can't remember anything Moynihan has ever been in.

Kate McKinnon is freaking awesome.

I dunno if I'd go that far. But a lot of weak spots, IMHO.

That show is waaaaay past it's prime. I don't know anyone who still watches it. And I don't hear anyone talking about it like back in the day unless Justin Timerlake is on there. disbelief

Well Bobby's drunk uncle bit has it's moments. Cecily is still too green to be handling weekend update, but she's getting better.

Honestly though everyone has sad this show sucks after the original cast left in the early 80's. Though Lorne is doing something right cause he practically owning late night.

Hey I liked Doug & Wendy Winer, and Eddie was there as well. SNL has not been good in about 15 years now.

SNL goes through cycles where its awesone followed by when it sucks, yet most of the time it's hot or miss anyway. Kate Mackinnon is awesome, and so is Taran Killam. Cecily Strong has her moments, and so does Jay Pharoh and Aidy Bryant, but most of the feature members they added this year they could have done without. Most of them hardly do anything now, so I doubt even regular viewers would miss them.

I say they are in a rebuilding phase-probably the second worst phase-behind the original players leaving. I would say that the political sketches are dead on and carry the show.

I like Vanessa Bayer as a cast member-she plays Miley, the Jacob bar mitzvah boy.

I've watched SNL since the early years. When I was in Jr. High School (Middle School), you weren't "cool" unless you were able to name at least one sketch you were allowed to stay up and watch each week- and it couldn't be from the very beginning. lol
I graduated with Artie Lange; he used to keep us entertained at lunch with his John Belushi imitations. He was going to be the "Next John Belushi". neutral

Now I only watch it on DVR if I like the special or musical guest, if I happen to be awake, or during election seasons. I want to like the new people, but they don't seem to have "it" like back in the day. Their comedy seems forced.

It's been a LOOOOONG time since I've made an effort to stay up & watch SNL.

As a matter of fact, I don't even RECALL when the last time was.

I did "return" to SNL when they hit the jackpot with that one election (was it Dubyah/Kerry? Or Obama/Clinton/McCain? I don't recall).

My point exactly. That cast (1980 - 84) was so bad that even having Eddie Murphy in it the whole time can't save it from being the worst cast (IMO) ever. Or, maybe we can blame the writers. But whatever, it was BAD.

disbelief Nah, I can see the 1980-81 cast as bad (Gilbert Gottfried, Charles Rocket) and the 1985 cast in which everyone got fired execept Jon Lovitz, Nora Dun, and Dennis Miller. There were bad casts in the 90's as well like the Chris Elliot year he was on (1994-95). For me the last good cast was Will Ferrell period and just went down hill with Tina Fey, Jimmy Fallon took over.

Kate McKinnon is the freshest SNL cast member since Kristen Wiig. It's not too surprising she is so good, as she was stellar in LOGO channel's "Big Gay Sketch Show" (2007-2010). She did a lot of fantastic characters on BGSS that I've been hoping would carry over to SNL.

There was Fitzwilliam, the boy who wanted a vagina.

Her Rachel Ray made a parody of trying to live off of $40 a day.

She also contributed as Blair in hysterical "Facts of Life" sketches, as well as doing impressions of Ann Coulter, Barbara Walters, and Hilary Clinton.

And one of the best sketches was McKinnon's vegan cooking show host character, Shim Shai Horowitz, introducing viewers to the joys of raw foods.

As for Cecily Strong, she's such a dead-ringer for Katie Lee - food critic, cookbook author, and annoying co-host of "The Kitchen" on the Food Network, I get the two confused.

I actually have every single episode from all 39 seasons either on DVD or on a hard drive (obviously some of the 80s ones are of rather dubious picture quality).

As we don't really get it here in the UK as various channels have only sporadically broadcast select seasons, it became a bit of an obsession to get them all. Truly and honestly having seen every single episode, it has ALWAYS been hit and miss. Yes, even the first 5 seasons. There are memorable sketches and characters dotted around but as with most things, people look at them through rose tinted glasses.

When I first started collected them about 10 years ago all I heard online were complaints about how awful it was, but never saw the problem myself. Having since seen it all, I'd say pretty much the whole of the 90s was the peak of the show, but the Tina Fey era was also very strong especially for female talent. What it's doing now is still FAR better than SNL in the 80s.

Man, people should be careful what they ask for 'cuz that isht was not cute or funny.

Kind of like that Harriet Tubman thing that Russell Simmons did a couple of months ago.

I bet a spoof about the Trail of Tears or the concentration camps would never be tolerated.
