Grand Budapest Hotel 6.5 / 10

Kinda interesting but a little too quirky for my liking. Ending not great.

Frozen (2013 film) poster.jpg

Frozen 2.5/5 I guess I can see what kids loved about it, but I wasn't especially moved. The snowman was amusing, but I did keep thinking of Uncle Arthur from Bewitched a lot, I don't know why.

'3 Days to Kill.' was pretty bad to be an action movie. The family reunion was nice, but why in this movie, like this?

'From Paris, With Love,' with John Travolta is a much better done action movie centered around a relationship in Paris.

I'm gonna give 'Grand Budapest Hotel' a viewing, probably this weekend.

Cold War (2012) - The police department has long been untouchable until tonight when hijackers kidnap 5 highly trained officers. Cryptic messages from the hijackers expose a mole within the task force.

I saw this on a flight over the weekend. I read it was the top-grossing domestic movie in Hong Kong in 2012 and won many awards there. It would have been nice to watch the locations shots on a proper TV instead of on the fuzzy airplane seat screen. star star star 1/2

The first half of every year is shitty, don't worry, there are plenty of good movies to come out later such as:

Interstellar
Inherent Vice
Foxcatcher
Boyhood
Exodus
Gone Girl
...etc

So far, I think The Grand Budapest Hotel & Under The Skin are the only good films this year.

Bennett Miller blew my mind with Moneyball, so I'm curious about Foxcatcher.

The Grand Budapest Hotel

3.5/5

In some ways reminded me of 'Life of Pi,' (which I didn't like.)

Some interesting cameo appearances.

The story didn't seem interesting but the performances kept it interesting.

In the Realm of the Senses - I watched it, I can't un-watch it, and I guess I'm glad I did if only to add a notch to my viewing list of unsexy sex films.

I own this Blu-ray, but have not watched it in its entirety yet. It sounds like it belongs in the same category as Lars von Trier's Antichrist.

Million Dollar Arm (2014) - A sports agent stages an unconventional recruitment strategy to get talented Indian cricket players to play Major League Baseball.

It's a Disney movie so it's scrubbed clean of any grit. I would give it a lower rating, but I like Jon Hamm and I like baseball. star star star

My parents brought me up on old movies, and now as an adult, I still prefer them to new ones LOL. Lots to be discovered, and my parents have loads of them LOL. I can never get anyone my age (28) to watch them with me.....

anyway its a decent film. Warner Bros films of this period are great fun (major studios had a house style of their own back then). Hearing Bogart saying "Dr Clitterhouse" is unintentionally hilarious LOL. The premise is quite interesting too. A Doctor deliberately helping commit crimes for scientific purposes LOL.

In general, acting back then was so much better it's not even funny. It helps this film had fine actors like Robinson, Bogart and Claire Trevor though....

Ida (2013) - Anna, a young novitiate nun in 1960s Poland, is on the verge of taking her vows when she discovers a dark family secret dating back to the years of the Nazi occupation.

It's a simple story told very effectively. I loved the cinematography. star star star star 1/2

I think mine as well. So well put together and the voiceover(No spoilers from me) work was different for sure. I may revisit it sometime soon. JustErin you will like it I'm sure.

Mr. Nobody 3.5/5 What a bizarre, kind cute love story movie. Of course I need answers.
