What Computer Antivirus Program Do You Recommend?

I now have Eset, and I despise it. Every time I get a virus on this computer, a windows box pops up, telling me that I have to "clean" the virus off my computer. But when I click on the link, another box pops up on my screen, telling me not to click on the link, because it is a "virus". This has been going on for some time, and I am tired of it. So far, I have had viruses on this computer TWICE. My computer guy have to take EVERYTHING off this computer and reinstall it again after the viruses were removed. disbelief I have come to the conclusion that Eset is a flaming pile of shit, and I need something better to protect this computer from viruses. What's the purpose of me paying for an antivirus program, when I wind up getting them anyway? It's a complete waste of time and money, in my opinion.

Please tell me what antivirus program you recommend. Anything but Eset and Norton (which is also another flaming pile of shit antivirus program that I had. Even my computer guy said it was no good). lol

RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

i would echo what Unique said - i have used avg on a few computers ... and Avira on another one and had no issues ...

i do also use malwarebytes or whatever it is called ....

The computer i have for work has Symantec - seems to work well... altho I did have to put Malwarebytes on that one too ...

at home - the computers my kids use get hit hard it seems ... they are always downloading stuff they shouldnt and what you describe I had that !

Colonel Angus may be smelly. colonel angus may be a little rough . but deep down ... Colonel angus is very sweet.

Thanks for your input, everyone. I forgot about AVG. err Someone else had mentioned that it was a good antivirus software. I'm going to have to try it.

RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Depending on what OS you have (preferably Linux), you should use a combo of AVG and Malwarebytes, especially if you have Windows 7 or XP. If you have Windows 8, Microsoft's Windows Defender is actually quite good, even if it is bloated, and it's already integrated into Win8. But I would still add Malwarebytes as a backup.

Psychodelicide, you really need to switch to Linux smile Why don't you try Fedora 20? - www.fedoraproject.org , it's really TREMENDOUSLY cool! Me, and the other geeky types here will help you with your problems, such as I'm sure you'll want to install MP3 support and what not. But really, you need to switch. Take my word for it smile

After 10+ years of Norton, I switched to ESET.

So far so good.

Norton SLOWED me down big time.

ESET seems non-intrusive, blocks the pop-up malware sites when I am surfing porn, and doesn't slow down my computer like Norton.

Some things that I miss from Norton- Cloud back up, data and statistics, news/blogs

What I do not miss- outrageous prices, poor customer service, lag time/slow computer

I'm not sure how you put up with Norton that long. lol
My cousin gave me a computer from his job about 7 years ago and he
had Norton corporate edition on it and after awhile it seemed like it
took 20 minutes to update. I finally got fed up after a year and installed
Avira which a lot of my fellow students used when we used to operate on
computers several years ago. I would never recommend Norton or McAfee to anyone.

Mostly because my employer paid for it the 7 of those years.

That can't do half the shit I need a pc for.

I've been using Avast! Antivirus free for months and haven't had any issues.
