lol When I first read that, I thought it was "chinchilla." I thought, "Now how in the hell can that work?" You've got a regular menagerie there!

Thank you all very much. I spent about an hour last night going over the entire house with a black light finding all the places they had sprayed or peed. Every room in the damn house was affected! The balck light really works in illuminating the pee and spray spots. I can tell whether they squated or sprayed just by the stain pattern the light reveals. Fortunately I had some of that urine enzyme that takes out the stain and the smell. The trick is that you must completely saturate the stain with the enzyme. I used it in a quart sized squirt bottle and while holding the black light over the stains, I could see exactly where to apply the enzyme, and the stains and smells disappear almost instantaneouly. Most of the areas affected were the carpeting. Thank God they had not peed on my brand new living room furniture. It's covered with "Scat Mats," which emit a slight electrical shock when they jump up on the sofa, love seat, recliner and dining room table. I guess I shoudl get one for the stove top, too.

I am going to check the sheletr to see if they have a neutrering event going on where I can get him fixed at a discount. I just cant see paying a vet $160 to lazer little kittie nuts. hmph!

Come to think of it, one of my other males might be trying to tell me something because he peed on me! I was in bed lying on my side. I felt one of the kitties jump up on the bed, which I allow. Then all of a sudden I felt this warm, wet sensation on my back. Spunky Monkey was peeing on me! I made an appointment to take him to the vet. I know he must not be feeling up to snuff.

$160??? eek

That's expensive!

Good that the blacklight and enzym think worked, but I can imagine you'r not planning to make that a daily chore sad

It seems they are upset with something, it's not easy to figure out what causing it.

I haven't read through all the replies (so sorry if already been mentioned), but you could try a product called 'Feliway'. It's a plug-in thing. Supposed to help with scratching and peeing (it chills them the fuck out)... something to do with pheromones...
I would post a link, but I'm using my phone..

I got a rescue cat last may and I just ordered some Feliway from amazon (its cheaper from there). I'm hoping it'll stop my cat from self-harming. rolleyes

Although I'm a cat person, we have dogs. I'm beginning to like them dogs, but still - I'm a cat person.

We had 3 in the past few years but I guess they were old and wandered off and died. At first I thought someone stole one of the cats because he was a very nice black persian cat, very fluffy and hugable. Then one by one the other cats all of a sudden disappeared. sad

I can't have the cats in the house like most people do since I'm very allergic, and I've never had any problems with keeping cats since they used the yard to do their business.

One of my cats has started pissing on my brand new stove and refrigerator. WTF??? The stove is gas and has two cast iron grids that cover the gas burners on the stove top. The fridge is a double door stainless steel model. My old appliances were the regular 4 burner stove top and a regular white fridge with the freezer on the top. The cat never bothered those, but as soon as I spend $20,000 on a new kitchen remodel with all new appliances, one of them decides my stove top and fridge doors were a good place to pee and spray. I have a feeling it is the one non neutered male. I have five other cats that are all fixed, one female and four other males. I don't think it's any of them because they don't jump up on the counter like this one lil pisser does. Anyone else have cats that spray or pee in odd areas? I'm gonna have to send him to the shelter because I cannot tolerate cat piss on my kitchen appliances and furniture. That shit gives me an instant headache from my blood pressure rising, I get so upset. And lord help me if he pees somewhere where I cannot easily see it. Sometimes I have to get on all fours like a damn dog and sniff all around the baseboards and furniture to find the pee. I've also invested in a "Stink Finder." It's a portable black light that illuminates any trace of urine, but I have to wait until the room is dark enough for the light to show the pee and by that time my head is splitting open. Then I have to go through the cleaning ritual: hot soapy cloth to blot up the pee or stain and then use baking soda to sprinkle over the area, rub it in and let it sit overnight. The next day I vacumn the rug, if that's where the pee was, and then treat the area with one of those urine neutralizer enzyme sprays, which are not cheap. Again, any others with this problem, and if so, did you get it corrected or get rid of the cat?

If he's a male castration may be the solution but it may not work if he's too old. I had my cat castrated at 5 YO because of that and it was too late: he didn't do it as often and he wouldn't do it in odd places anymore (only on the floor) but he kept doing it on a regular basis. He knew it was wrong but he couldn't help himself, so unfortunately punishment won't get you anywhere here. So u oughta castrate him and if it won't b enough u gotta learn to live with the nuisance and clean after him ^^

Getting rid of my cat wasn't an option, one doesn't get rid of their children.

He may also be facing an unusual situation of stress. If it's the case finding out what it is and improving it may help. Vets also sell apeasing pheromones to sprays around the house to help solve crisis situations, u may wanna discuss this with the vet anyway.

Chile, been there done that. That stuff is expensive and didn't seem to work.

UPDATE:

Well, I got Bijou snipped last Thursday at the shelter. They only charged me $35, but after adding on all the shots and stuff, it still came to $135. I had to stuff his lil ass into a pillowcase to get him into the carrier for the trip to the vet. As soon as my cats see me bring up the carrier from the basement they haul ass. T, scatter like roaches when a light is turned on. They know somebody's 'bout to take a road trip. Poor Bijou hauled ass as soon as we got home and I let him ouit of the carrier. He headed straight for the basement and stayed down there for almost 2 days. He had on one of those Elizabethan collars to prevent him from messing with his stitches, but he found a way to rid himself of that after the first day. I watched him closely to make sure he wouldn't pull his stitches out. After the second day, he was fine and back tohis old self. I haven't caught him spraying yet either and the other cats don't seem to be spraying either becasue I haven't smelled any piss yet. I do make daily black light treks just to make sure and so far all is well, knock on wood. hammer lol

woot! Glad everything worked out. My cat was the same way when he saw me with the carrier. He knew whenever he saw that thing coming, it was time to go to the vet. I would have to chase him to get him into the carrier and he had the worst anxiety attacks in the car on the way to the vet. With my next cat, I'm going to take him on a short car ride at least once a week so he won't associate the carrier or my car with unpleasant things.
