The Captain and Tennille Are Getting A D I V O R C E

Their biggest hit was "Love Will Keep Us Together," but '70s singing duo the Captain & Tennille are getting a divorce.

Toni Tennille, whose real name is Cathryn Antoinette Tennille, 73, filed for divorce on Jan. 16, the Prescott, Arizona City courthouse confirms to PEOPLE.

Daryl Dragon, 71, also known as the Captain, was a keyboard player for the Beach Boys before meeting his wife. They released their first album in 1974, winning a Grammy the following year.

Tennille revealed on her blog in 2010 that Dragon was suffering from a neurological condition similar to Parkinsons that causes him to have tremors, which she said were "pretty severe at times" and interfered with his ability to play the keyboard.

The couple have no children. RumorFix was the first to report the couple's divorce.

There can be only one Captain. Now that the imposter is out of the way, the real Captain (aka myself) is going in for the kill. I'm going to show that geriatric hottie what real muskrat love feels like.

I hope that's not the reason. If it is, then I guess love didn't keep them together. neutral

Awwwww. They were such a cute couple back in the day. Does seem bizarre that after all this time and at their age they'd, now, get a divorce. But sometimes illness changes people personalities for the worse making them very difficult to deal with. Who knows, maybe it's business, though I can't imagine what.

Why don't people post pictures anymore? I would but this computer is a pain for that.

It is possible that whether they love each other or not has nothing to do with it. At their age, and given his health, it may be that they are trying to preserve assets.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Could be. But according to TMZ, the Captain didn't see it coming. I find that odd if it's for asset preservation.

falloff

Actually, the Captain should have left her after the making of that video due to the large wiener roll surrounding her entire face. I mean, hey, if she's gonna leave you for Parkinson's, you had every right to ditch her for the Oscar Mayer. He missed his golden opportunity. nod giggle

That makes sense to me. Seems weird that now their divorcing because she found a new man, possible, but weird.

Goodness, I don't remember those irises that big. They still were a cute couple. One of those few trademark couples. Burns and Allen, Ashford and Simpson, Captain and Tenille.

I thought the same thing! If Toni really IS divorcing the Captain because he has a neurological condition, that's a pretty cold thing to do on her part. confused
