I think Johnny Depp is one of the finest we had in the scene a decade ago. His acting is just fine, Gun, you shoud allow yourself to watch some of his earlier 90's stuff, and I think his role in POC 1 is great and Academy Award-worthy (If it wasn't for Foxx's great performance in Ray, Johnny would've won that), Blow, Sweeney Todd... the due can stay in character.. even though lately he went into crap movies..

I really want him someday to pick up an Oscar and restore the glory days, him, Brad Pitt, these guys are 50 years old and they just never got what they deserve.

I grew up loving Tim Burton and Johnny Depp is obviously a big part of the appeal of those movies.

Now as I've gotten older I realize Johnny Depp is actually pretty damn harmless / vanilla as a person, as an actor and as a sex symbol.

benny & joon is one of my all time faves, didn't watch all his pirate movies, but the ones i did see did nothing for me.

I actually like a lot his 90s roles. The 90s was also when Pit did some good shit. It's when depp started the "major transformation" for each role that i got bored with him. If he did another killer film like son Jon or donny brasco. I'm in!

I'm biased, I suppose because I really do love his acting (and looks ), and your major frustration ("major transformation" for each role ) is probably one of the things I like most about him. Aren't the best actors/actresses the ones who can pretty much become their character?

If you don't really like his "quirkier" roles, maybe you'd like him in Public Enemies or Secret Window or anything non-Tim Burton or pirate related.

Johnny Depp is a great actor.

The Lone Ranger has made 260 million to date (this does not include DVD/BD rentals or sales). So, if a movie makes 260 million is a flop-let all the movies I make, make that!

^I will say this, while The Lone Ranger is way too long, if you break it down into a 2 night viewing its actually quite good. I personally like the anti capitalist, pro native american, themes going on. The movie is almost an anti block buster.

it's the only think i even slightly dislike about johnny depp: he has joined the ranks of men who retain women very much younger than themselves. i saw a recent photo of them together and he looks way older than she. oh well. why is age more than a number? because it represents that which we came here for, life and living.
