Beyonce Would Have Made a Good 'Wonder Woman"

Beyonce was interested in the role of Wonder Woman. I think it's too bad she didn't get a crack at it. After watching her DVD from her new release, I think she looks fantastic and she'd make a great Diana Prince/Wonder Woman. (Much better than who they did finally pick for the part.) Here is a 2008 article about B as WW:

Beyonce wants to lasso the role of Wonder Woman

Nov. 07, 2008

Wonder_woman_by_alex_ross Beyonce_photo_by_kevork_djansezian_

Beyoncé is ready for an Amazon-sized challenge — the pop superstar wants to be the first actress to wear Wonder Woman’s famed red, white and blue bathing suit on the silver screen.

"I want to do a superhero movie and what would be better than Wonder Woman? It would be great. And it would be a very bold choice. A black Wonder Woman would be a powerful thing. It’s time for that, right?"

Beyoncé says that she has met with representatives of DC Comics and Warner Bros. to express her interest in a major role in one of the many comic-book adaptations now in the pipeline following the massive success of "The Dark Knight," "Iron Man" and the "Spider-Man" and "X-Men" franchises. Beyoncé’s acting to career to date has included a comedic role in "Austin Powers in Goldmember" and two notable music world roles, the first as a quasi-Diana Ross character in "Dreamgirls" and as the defiant and heroin-addicted Etta James in the upcoming "Cadillac Records."

"After doing these roles that were so emotional I was thinking to myself, ‘OK, I need to be a superhero,’" Beyoncé told me this week when I met her for an interview in a suite atop the Rivington Hotel in New York. "Although, when you think about the psychology of the heroes in the films these days, they are still a lot of work, of course, and emotional. But there’s also an action element that I would enjoy."

Beyonce_at_dreamgirls_premiere_2006

The recent success of sophisticated comic-book adaptations is the main reason for Beyoncé’s interest, she said, but her focus on Wonder Woman was intensified earlier this year when she saw Lynda Carter’s costume from the 1970s television show on display at the Costume Institute’s “Superhero” show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Beyoncé is in amazing shape right now (she had gained more than 20 pounds for the James role and came back from that leaner than before), but she said the Wonder Woman costume is an unforgiving one.

"I would definitely have to keep it right for that costume. The way that Lynda Carter wore it, she was sooo fine. She was amazing. I saw her costume at the Met. Her waist was unbelievable. It was pretty crazy, actually, her proportions. But I love Wonder Woman and it’d be a dream come true to be that character. It sure would be handy to have that lasso. To make everybody tell the truth? I need that. It would come in very handy."

The 27-year-old Houston native also recently finished work on the Scott Shill thriller "Obsessed" and, in her role as a woman whose husband is being stalked, she got her first experience with a staging a brawl for the camera.

Lynda_carter_as_wonder_woman"I play a wife fighting for her family and I have this big, big fighting scene with Ali Larter, who is an incredible actress. It took us days just to film it. I had my boots on and, wow, I got into it. So I really want that now. Now I have to do an action film. It’s like dancing and choreography. And the superhero movies now, they’re not corny, not corny at all, so that’s what I want to do. And I would love if it could be Wonder Woman."

It”s not clear if anyone will be able to deliver a Wonder Woman project anytime soon, however. The heroine, who debuted in 1941, is by far the most iconic superhero who has yet to reach theaters. Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Hulk and the Fantastic Four have all had multiple bites at the Hollywood apple and Captain America and Captain Marvel, both of whom were featured in 1940s serials, have adaptations now in the pipeline, as do Thor, Flash and Green Lantern.

"Catwoman" and "Elektra" both fizzled at the box office, which certainly didn’t help the cause of female costumed characters as properties. In 2005, Warner Bros. announced with some fanfare that Joss Whedon of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" fame would bring the pride of Paradise Island to the screen but even his considerable affinity for strong female characters didn’t help him deliver a script that stirred studio chiefs. Still, earlier this year Warner president Jeff Robinov said that a solo Wonder Woman project remains one of the studio’s future plans as it mines the DC library.

If not Wonder Woman, what other character, either Marvel or DC, could Beyoncé want to portray? With a laugh, she said: "I’m open to suggestions!"

And, if Beyonce would have been picked for the Wonder Woman role, you can bet the soundtrack would have been kick-ass!

I wouldn't say that. But she can't carry a movie. She can't get out of her own way sometimes on screen.

Oh please, GTFOWTBS. It would have been a travesty having that overhyped, overexposed, weave-wearing siren playing Wonder Woman. I'm one of those comic-book nerds who believes in staying true to the original character. Wonder Woman = tall, fit Greek Amazon. Case closed.

funny, people who aren't stars have so much to say about

how someone is unable to act.... BUT that person gettin spoke on

has already made millions doin just that thing...

i don't listen to her music except by happenstance.

i've seen her in a movie before... she did her job.

since there isn't a REAL wonder woman, i think she can fit

the part just right. if she doesn't, i don't have to do a repete.

i've heard about the crash and burn of others tryin to play the part.

linda carter was cool because she set the standard (at the time)

tinkerbell in the '70s and a tink today are waaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy different.

what the original 'tink' was, was unacceptable for film at the time. now they

portray her as the author intended.

the wonder woman of today ain't all that prissy.

i think 'b' can do with this what haley did for storm,

make it her own...

You're exactly right, especially when it's us, "the people who aren't stars", who decide what movies we will show up at the box office to see. I can tell you one obvious factor, if I know there's an actor in a movie that I've seen previously a few times before that can't act worth a damn, then I'm not spending any of my hard earned money going to see it, rent it, etc.

And let's be clear, she's made millions with her music, touring and other ventures...not her acting so much. thumbs up!

Sorry KingBAD, but it was painful watching Halle as Storm. I don't care if she's older, that role was perfect for Iman.

IMO, Beyonce would have done for WW what Halle did for Storm, but not in a positive way.

I get what you are saying, but just because celebs make more money than the average person doesn't mean that us folks who make less can't have an opinion about their work. lol You are using this "hater" concept a bit too loosely. Saying that she can't act is not hating at all, if I don't like it, then I don't like it. I think Will Smith is a great actor but a horrible rapper. Does that make me a hater of Will? Not at all (though I believe his infamous stan on this site would disagree lol)...I just would spend my money seeing him a movie rather than buying one of his albums. Just because I'm not a Bey fan doesn't mean that I believe she's a talentless whore, it means that while I believe she's a hard worker and a great entertainer, I believe that her acting is shit. My opinion isn't knocking her hustle at all, it's just simply saying that she can't act. I gave her the benefit of the doubt when she was in Dreamgirls but what sealed the deal for me was her horrid portrayal of Etta James in "Cadillac Records". I believe Morris Day could have acted that role better than Bey did and we all know that Morris can't act worth a damn either. lol

I will disagree with you about Halle.

In fact I've argued with my buddy over this for YEARS now.

It was not Halle's fault that Storm came across so lame in the movies. It was the Director!!! (Producer???)

Storm is supposed to be a kick-ass member of the X-Men...and she had what - one line? - in the entire first movie???? Then when women moistened their panties over Hugh Jackman, the rest of the films were really just vehicles for Hugh Jackman to jump around shirtless.

Storm deserved better treatment in the movies. As did Cyclops, Iceman, Colossus(!!!!) et. al. - but the characters (and the actors by default) were relegated to sideline players for the Wolverine franchise.

Could another actress have played Storm better? Maybe. Personally I think Angela Bassett would've been PERFECT. But NO ONE would've been immune from the deficiencies in the script/production of the movies that treated the character so trivially.

[Edited 1/2/14 9:49am]

The problem with her 'acting,' is that she goes in and out of character. She can't stop being Beyonce. The problem with Wonder Woman is that it won't be an action musical. She's so hung up on being 'Beyonce' and it comes through. She can't really do anything onscreen that "Beyonce' wouldn't do.

In Dreamgirls, you can envision ol' school Destiny's Child. She can do that. She can't do, say, 'Lady Sings the Blues.' She wouldn't want stills and gifs and images of her from that movie to exist. Which is why she couldn't portray a drug addict.

I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.
