I suffer from this. I can literally grow a beard overnight. It used to be something I was proud about, but now that I am not in my 20's or 30's anymore, as my hair has changed to that of Anderson Cooper over the years - so has the beard. UGH!

Now it looks like I have coated my face in sugar granules! Crap - so much for being able to pull this off. I either have to grow it out into a beard (which I have to retouch with Just For Men dye) or keep my face as clean-shaven as possible, which means sometimes having to shave TWICE a day. So to the youngins' out there who have this ability, enjoy it. It's gonna suck when you get older...

I call them Candidates For Male Pattern Baldness.

It seems to me that there is a correlation between a heavy beard and hair loss. This is just an observation - I've done no research on it at all. But it seems like most of the guys I know that can grow a heavy beard - especially those that could grow one in their teens - went bald.

I have also heard it described as "rugged."

Does the man in the OP look 'rugged?' Nah. IMO (not arguing. lol)

I have a "72-o'clock shadow"...meaning I shave every three days or so nowadays and that's the result I get.
