Candyman

One of the VERY FEW horror movies that scared me as a kid was Candyman. I Remember watching it late one night and was surprised by a few things. First was that the movie was centered around Cabrini Green which was a real scary problem in the 90's. The fact that it was a horror movie that took place in the ghettos of Chicago, talked race relation issues, and asked if you believe in something long enough why would it go away(Ala the Candyman myth).

And, although the movie has it's problems. It's still one of the most unique horror movies around. One issue i guess with horror... is once you grow up and see the crazy shit that happens in real life. Horror movies become more fantasy than scary... but the fact a movie like candyman took place in a realistic and already scary setting made it so great. Plus the Candyman himself was not really that evil... he was a victim of his time period.

Candyman and A Nightmare on Elm Street were the two that fucked me up as a kid. I felt for Candyman
and the sexual nature of Freddy's murders, coupled with his ability to get you in your dreams, made him terrifying.

I remember I used to avoid looking at mirrors late at night after watching that movie. lol The scene when the kid in a public bathroom had his manhood snatched from him was something else.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I'm a huge horror movie fan. I liked "Candyman" well enough but it was kinda creepy. I still don't own any of the movies on DVD. To this day, I wouldn't even think about standing in front of a mirror and saying "Candyman" 3 times. lol boxed
