In the meantime, the million dollar question will be to see if Cyrus comes out of this mess (of an era) intact...personally as well as in terms of life long career aspirations...

Not coincidentally, her new album is released next Tuesday. So we'll know soon enough if these shenanigans have drummed up any sales interest.

What kind of fanbase does she have?

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

personally, I think she looks great with short hair...when she cut it, it made me notice her for the first time...so, yeah; I think she's hot

it's just Miley overkill right now and she seems content fueling that overkill fire...these pics, along with her other recent actions, haven't caused me to form a more disparaging opinion or more positive opinion of her...she does come across as trying too hard tho shrug

I guess my only real hope is that she's just playing the game and has a firm grasp of what she's doing and the image she's creating...some have taken the same path and made it work, others have fell flat and become a parody of themselves or even worse, completely ruined their lives...it's never a good thing to see someone so young waste away...I hope thats not the case with Miley

How is it you feel?

She'd be alright if she stopped for a minute with trying to be edgy. I hear the ballads may be her album's saving grace. Wrecking Ball is kinda proving that.

Yes, I hope that too.

Would be so cool if she could act calm and classy now and then. The joke would be on the hypocrits than. Now the joke is more and more on her.

I really like her hair cut. She's a very beautiful lady. Hope she can spin this whole thing in a way that she makes the perv look like assholes, the judgemental hypocrites for what they are and I hope she will start to make some good stuf and stop the silly teenage rebel act.

It's so funny to see people who championed Miley so hard now completely shun her because she has a few so called provocative pictures and dances...what...inappropriately?

Especially on a Prince site! lol

Typical backlash against what some think is an overt display of female sexuality. Woman aren't supposed to sexual outside the bedroom, remember?

The...what? Sad? Confusing? Ironic? Infuriating?...thing is that Cyrus has more than enough talent to make it without trying to convince everyone she is a whore.

The "Hey look at me - I'm a whore!" bit is for people with no talent.

it's because she's chosen to slut her way to the top instead of relying on actual musical talent or skill, she's gone for the old i'm naked approach. such a shame that in this day and age women feel they must be nude to sell their talent. this is the exact opposite of female empowerment

It's not her nude photos that bother me. It's the fact she sounds worse than Rihanna when she sings and it takes 5 people to write ''we can't stop we won't stop''

absolutely prince used the same ploy to gain attention. and in my opinion, that was not his best era, creatively speaking.

moreover, i still maintain it's a dang shame shame sex has to be the BIGgest part of the show, whether it's miley today or prince 30 years ago.

In both cases, probably not. hamster3

I find the reactions about Miley very intersting.

A 46-year old guy makes a hit by copying music and walking around young nameless topless girls.
Song lyics are common excuses that rapists use: "I know you want it"
Nobody cares.

A 22-year old girl sings with that same perv on stage, and acts like one of the girls in his video.

Everybody panics.

Why?

Because old pervs are celebrated, but an all American girl has to obey the hypocrit double standards!

I really don't understand why all the hate goes to Miley and not to Robin Thicke's video.

And I don't understand why these (indeed not very classy) pictures of Miley cause mayhem.

She poses exactly how the western culture wants girls to be.

What is shocking about that?

She is just a product of the Marketing campaigns of the past decades. And that is sad.

What if find groce, is that an old guy like Terry Richardson or Robin Thicke don't protect Miley from that crazy stuf. And I find it MTV irresponsible for bullying Miley.

I find the hypocricy about Miley more shocking than Miley's behavior.

What scares me even more than these old guys making a profit over her back, is that she does not see any harm in drugs.

Drugs habit has never turned out positive for anybody. And I think it's a shame that Miley thinks it's different for her. I hope somebody will teach her some stuf about drugs.

Don't be silly. Of course some people have expressed strong opinions about the Robin Thicke video and song.

I don't disagree with you, and I'm pretty sure you know I don't disagree with you, but I think there are two issues at hand that are affecting people so strongly...

First, she was a Disney kid. For tens of millions of kids AND their parents she was Hannah Montana. She was the squeaky clean image of how to behave well as a child. And she released three albums before her Disney contract expired that showed no signs of the sudden change that was coming around the bend. I mean really, it's been, what? A year? Less? So while someone like Prince or Madonna were ALWAYS that person/artist, Miley was not, and that makes it appear contrived and disingenuous.

Still, who cares, right? I mean it IS clearly a double standard. So what gives? Well, in my opinion anyway, it's that she's done a bad job of being bad. The outfits she's wearing look ridiculous. The Mtv performance was ridiculous AND awful (I even posted videos of her ACTUALLY singing in the thread about it). The poses in those Terry Richardson pics are uncomfortably bad (not to mention the pointless nudity in the wrecking ball video - because it's actually a damn good song). And the tongue always wagging out her mouth is just freakin' strange. Prince, Madonna, even Lady Gaga (who I absolutely HATE!), have the benefit of their sexuality being perceived as part of their "art", but with Miley it's just coming across as calculated trashiness.

So what I think is happening is the combination of the sudden use of sex (and drugs) as part of her image, in combination with how poorly it's been executed, is sending people into a general head-spinning state of "WTF?!?"

I sure as hell did. I've never found Robin Thicke very interesting and I thought the video was insulting in concept and execution. Said so more than once in more than one place. Same with the titty filled Justin Timberlake video that was supposed to be about how much he loves his wife. rolleyes

No. You adopted the hypocrite standard of the majority.

But actually, I didnt. I am just as disgusted by her as I am with the content in Robin Thicke's video. And by the fact that he was on stage with her at the VMAs, a married man, many years her senior, dancing in the same provocative manner. I just dont think its right. I dont think its right that I have to stomach watching a 22 year old who looks no more than 12 shake her ass in nothing more than nude lingerie, simulate masterbating with a foam finger, and dance on a guy whos old enough to be her dad, all on live tv and all the while being praised for it. I dont think its right. The argument is I didnt have to watch the VMAs, and to be honest I didnt. But it affects me when everyone around me cant stop talking about it. Every news story. Every magazine. Its disgusting!

Well said, IMO. You don't have to think, feel or believe what anybody else thinks, feels or believes if you don't want to, and you don't have to like it when they're talking about it. So long as you aren't dictating what other people should think, feel or believe your opinion is perfectly vaild. The world would be a boring place if we were all the same. Millions of people watched the VMA's and I don't believe any of them were expecting to see THAT! lol Honestly though, I don't think she's being praised for it as much as you think she is.

Co-sign. I just think shes trying too hard to fit in, to be accepted for something other than what she did with Disney, to be "as cool" as all the other trendy, shitty rappers, producers, artists, djs, without fully realizing the consequences that come later on. And it really is a shame. That she has to resort to degrading herself in the public eye in order to feel accomplished. She was Hannah Montana. Millions of girls wouldve listened to her anyway. JustErin, I hear what youre saying, "Women arent supposed to be sexy outside the bedroom". I realize theres a huge double standard. But girls can be sexy without being slutty, cant they? I think there is a difference. Thats my issue.

No, I think he did too. I just think its stupid that people, men and women, Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke, Justin Timberlake, etc. think they have to peddle sex in order to be liked. Its happening all across the board in music today. And Im sick of it. I saw it discussed in another topic, but seriously, cant anyone write a decent pop song that doesnt have profanity in the lyrics or naked body parts in the video? I mean, Im aware they can. Adele had one of the biggest songs/albums of the past year, but I just feel like its overshadowed too often by people trying to convince us that their pile of shit is art.
