Does this picture gross you out? (Safe for work)

If it does, there's a good chance you have trypophobia.

http://www.npr.org/blogs/health/2013/09/04/218958362/the-inside-story-on-the-fear-of-holes?utm_source=NPR&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=20130904

Trypophobia may be moving out of the urban dictionary and into the scientific literature.

A recent study in the peer-review journal Psychological Science takes a first crack at explaining why some people may suffer from a fear of holes.

Trypophobia may be hard to find in textbooks and diagnostic manuals, but a brief Web search will show that plenty of people appear to have it.

There's even a website, , that explains the problem like this:

"Have you ever felt anxious when you see a hole in the road or a pot? Or are you nervous when someone will bring a cheese with lots of holes in front of you? If yes, you might have trypophobia."

But why?

Geoff Cole and Arnold Wilkins, both researchers at the , decided to analyze the characteristics of the images that appear on the trypophobia.com website.

"You can take any image and break it down into its core fundamental components meaningful to the visual system," Cole tells Shots. "This would be things like luminance, contrast, wavelength of light."

When they performed their analysis, they found that images that evoked the phobic reaction to holes had quite unique characteristics in terms of contrast and levels of fine details.

I saw that article and that photo did not especially gross me out.

But recently on facebook there was a photo of a child's skull, and you could see all the baby teeth still in the jaw. It looked similar to this plant, and it really creeped me out! I could not really understand why, but it makes me uneasy even now, just thinking about it!

If all the little pods were taken out it wouldn't gross me out. I only realized that after reading Mach's post and remember I've seen those all the time as decorations and they never grossed me out. So it ain't the holes that's the problem.

I know where this is going.

But does give a legit weird feeling. My grandmother had this worn out wooden window sill, and in it it would have a ton of little holes in it, I remember being a child and going by it and feeling disgusted for some reason.
