Grammy-winning singer Dionne Warwick, whose string of gold and platinum hits stretched through the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s, is nearly broke. Warwick, 72, has just $25,500 in assets and $10.7 million in debts, according to her 50-page filing last week in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Newark. RELATED: BILLWATCH! PAM A...S TAX WOES The golden-voiced Warwick is left with just $10 a month after covering her expenses, the court documents said. After 50 years in show biz, the singer said all she had to show for it was $1,000 cash; assorted pieces of decades-old furniture; clothes; artwork and paintings; two fur coats, and two pairs of diamond earrings. The vast majority of her debt is $10.2 million in tax claims from the IRS and the state of California. She also owes a former manager about $500,000, and ran up a $20,000 Visa card debt, court papers showed. The enormous tax debt came from penalties and interest on back taxes where the principal has since been paid off, he said. Totally agree. I don't have sympathy for them either. They live like kings/queens and don't seem to question where their money is going until they're in trouble. The rest of us have pay our taxes every year by a certain date. | |

All jokes aside, this kind of financial mess pisses me off. You can't get ten MILLION dollars in debt with twenty five thousand dollars in assets and not be AWARE that it's happening. Further, it doesn't happen over night. It took a long time living above her means to get to that point. I don't care who you are, there should be stiffer penalties/punishment for reaching that level of selfish idiocracy. | |
