I've found that one can get the best Chinese fare at those hole-in-the-wall mom & pop joints. You know the kind that look kind of dumpy, usually just a few tables and mostly carryout. You walked in the door and the only thing you saw was the wok stove and cash register behind plexiglass. You'd stand there and watch the cook prepare the food. It was a show the way he tossed or swirled the food in that wok. Damn shame the place burned down.

This is so true. My sweetie and I have been to Dubuque (Iowa) many times, but had never had a decent meal in that town until we found this little hole-in-the-wall Asian place on our last visit. It's in a seedy neighborhood and the place is very run down. But the food was insane. I thought Sweetie was going to go for a swim in his hot and sour soup, he was so over the moon about it. My wonton soup was just as good (obviously a from-scratch chicken broth). And the Pad Thai was swoon-worthy.

Based on the place's appearance and the fact that we were the only people in the place (it was a very cold night), we almost didn't stay. Were we ever glad we did!

Why is it that some of the best food is found around strip joiints?

My kids...who don't ordinarily like burgers...love this place.

They also make Haagen Dazs milkshakes.

If you are ever in Boston the Best Chinese food-American style is East Coast ... all the Koreans eat there and it is in the trashy Feilds Corner area in Dorchester-greater Boston area. Hoodrat central.

Best Asian style cakes... Eldo's in downtown Boston :faints: their steam cakes topped with REAL whipped cream is to die for!

Best sushi... Jay's cafe on Columbus Ave. ... Haru is good too but pricey.

Best Ethipoian... Addis Addas on Columbus

Best Tapas.... Taro on Columbus

Great Indian... on Columbus Avenue also... next to Addis Addas...

awesome restaurants on that strip and its a great area to stroll in... $$$$... have your wallet ready.

But when you come here... its ALL about the seafood.

I wish Olive Garden delivered. Even if it was a $50 minimum I'd still pay just to have it brought to me to eat all alone.

I like to get pizza from Smokeys even though it's spendy.

Sweet! That is supposedly one of the oldest Indonesian restaurants.

Their food is great.
