Hipsters

Oy vey what a morning! the set i am working is full of angry, young, hip and angsty hipsters. Since 7 AM i had to hear about how if an underground artists gets atop 40 hit there a sell out and people can't listen anymore or they are ''conformist ghosts of America drinking stupid culture.
and great speeches of how people wearing certain clothes is just ''following evil trends started by the trend man'' and how we are all slaves to corporate America that's why it's good to stay ''underground'' or our souls are lost.

On top of that there work ethic was shit, they smelled bad, and couldn't lift anything!(Seriously they had to ask me 10 times to help them lit something while constantly bagging on my Erykah Badu shirt.. cause you know she had a top 40 hit in the 90's so she's ''evil''

Man... do people really get that deep into trends that they act like this? my brain is fried for today.

I get that people want to do their own thing and i majorly support that. But when you act like a total know-it-all jackass to someone(And that someone happens to be the guy picking up your slack at work) Then that is just sad/:

Well I think the problem is that there are so many phony hipsters that they outnumber real ones. You know the phonies, they are coffee shop, quasi-liberals with a token black friend in tow and who are all "socially aware" but have no substance to them. I detest hipsters with a passion.

I cringe cause there was a time i used to judge people on what they listen to.. now it's just like eh they have thier taste i have mine.

This is just an entire new level.. like confused

These are the type of guys who will talk about how Ok Computer & Aeroplane over The Sea are the best albums of all time. And how listening to D'Angelo is legit but listening to a 90's R. Kelly album is beneath them.

And they think other Americans who are willing to work for what they have should just hand them whatever they want. Douchenozzles.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

It's true confused

These guys have bad work ethic... i am in the sound department and i had to help with lights and camera cause they seeme to have ''deer in headlights'' look on their faces when they had to do it-.-

I honestly don't know how they own their own production company... has to be rich parents.

I owned a production company in my mid 20's, mostly still photography for the fashion industry...but there's no way I would have been able to do that without first having first slaved my ass off 6.3 days a week (starting at age 20 while finishing college), learning in trial by fire mode with a beastmaster boss in production- who practically enslaved me, as well as treated me like shit by leaving me responsible to run her company while she would run off to St. Barths for diving excursions on a whim...and putting the fear of gawd in me over the smallest (and largest) of tasks.

To this day I can't stand that evil, manipulative, cow of a woman....but at the same time, that witch taught/forced me how to run a million dollar company by the time I was 21 years old...in her absence while she would be skiing in Vail, but whatevs...I'm grateful for what I learned through force, on site because it taught me how to grind in a business environment...albeit a business environment where people where shorts, flip flops, jeans, and/or motorcycle boots to work...but still.

Look--- If you are on set and a photographer needs you to reflect his damned light, then b*tch, step up and grab that umbrella or reflector, and tilt it every every which way but loose until he says okay & until you get the friggin' shot. These youngin's today are lazy as hell confused WTH ever happened to taking initiave and just getting things done? mad

I am from the generation where once you reached a certain level in your profession or had a certain title, many times your bosses in glamour professions were like, "don't ask, just do."

If you ask me, I think that too many youngst--I mean hipsters, are getting shine and recognition off of hype and empty aesthetic rather than substance and "can-do". Do something more for me than looking cute. hammer

Wow i feel you a lot on this! hell this shit is like a piece of film making bible lol i need to put it on my walls.

And the cute part...err well to each his own i guess lol

Being a sound guy i actually don't mind helping do other jobs(Hell in film school we had a month for EACH job on set so... i can say with confidence i can do almost anything on set) but when i am basically doing a few peoples jobs and my own on top of that mad mad mad that is where i get pissed.

They can't even do they jobs they supposedly signed up for... so when they are asked to lift something oh boy you better believe they have a '''hurt back'' or ''hurt foot'' pssssh neutral

No joke...I was in the waiting room of my doctor's office and there was a dude looking JUST LIKE THAT sitting across from me.

I guess I'm old b/c I had no idea that the "unkempt look" was "in"...dude looked like he needed a haircut, shave & shower.

I always thought you were female...

Besides that, hipsters amuze me when I don't have to deal with them.

Here's a hipster quote that I've never forgotten.

While having breakfast at Hipster breakfast place...

"Yeah, there were a few bands playing there last night but it was all just rock and roll wallpaper"

falloff

I wanted to name my band that...

New York, you know, Brooklyn is way more hipster than LA. They frown on LA.

LA copies what trendy shit starts in NY. Maybe London and Paris are the true origins of hipster shit.

I'd love to be in a room full of classic hipsters trying to diss conformity, then bring up the fact they are all easily identified as conforming to trends themselves as a pack.

San Francisco has to be in the top 5 of hipster cities. Might as well just label the entire West Coast. Someone wrote an article about being the black in SF and hipster racism. It was an interesting perspective to read as someone who is an SF native. I've never been in the midst of hipsters or don't know any personally, but definitely seen them in the Mission hanging out at coffee shops.

I live in Silverlake, the hipster capital of Los Angeles. They walk around here in droves. I think Echo Park is next in line as another hipster neighborhod.
