there are probably a dozen or so episodes of m*a*s*h that'll draw a tear from me. nypd blue, too.

'a tale of two cities' had me bawling in the middle of my high school english class. and i don't think my eyes were dry for my entire reading of cormac mccarthy's 'the road', same with jaime hernandez' pages of 'love and rockets: new stories' #4.

Shun me but I am a big fan of the TV show Little House on the Prairie. I
always cry during these scenes:

In the episode, “I’ll Be Waving As You Drive Away, (PT 2),” a
recently-blinded Mary Ingalls is sitting with her blind school teacher. She asks
the teacher what he looks like and he lets her touch his face. She does and
thanks him. He then asks her what she looks like and it is only then that she
realizes he, too, is blind. Oh my goodness, I’m getting tears in my eyes just
typing this.

In the episode “Country Girls,” Caroline Ingalls buys some beautiful,
costly fabric and begins making herself a dress for a ‘visitors’ day’ at her
daughters’ school. The night before the visitors’ day, she is up late finishing
her dress. When the girls wake up in the morning and ask to see her dress, she
reveals that she instead made two dresses for them instead. So sweet!

In the episode, “The Music Box,” Laura befriends a girl named Anna. Anna
suffers from a stutter which causes other students to tease her mercilessly.
Laura receives a boring dictionary for her birthday. She visits mean girl
Nellie Oleson’s house and, in a moment of poor judgment, steals Nellie’s music
box. Nellie finds out about the theft and makes a deal with Laura that she will
not tell anyone of Laura’s crime, as long as she agrees to do as Nellie says.
What Nellie says is that Laura must be mean to Anna. The scene where Anna
breaks down and runs from Nellie’s house is heartbreaking.

There’s an episode of “Leave it to Beaver,” and I can’t remember all
the specifics but Beaver and Wally had a bank account and their father found
out they took money out of it and he’s livid with them, just livid. It turns
out that they took money out of the bank to buy him a hunting jacket. Ward is
later seen wearing the jacket and when his wife says to him, “Isn’t it too warm
for that?” He says something to the effect of, “No, it’s just perfect.” So sweet.

The episode of “Family Ties” where Mallory’s aunt Trudy dies.

The BTVS episode “The Body.”

The last episode of special or whatever of the BBC’s “The Office” when
Dawn returns to the party and takes Tim by the hand and leads him out.

The episode of the US “The Office” when Michael goes to Pam’s art show
and buys one of her paintings.

I cannot watch the movie “Requiem for a Dream” without sobbing like an
idiot throughout, pretty much, the entire thing. The parts that kill me the most
are when Mrs. Goldfarb says to her son “Look at me, Harry. I’m alone,” and when
Marion’s voice breaks as she asks Harry if he can come see her today rather
than tomorrow, as she knows she is about to do something really terrible, to
get her fix. Beyond sad.

“Dancer in the Dark” – oh man, I just cried and cried

“Schindler’s List”

“The Color Purple”

“Driving Miss Daisy”

“Boys Don’t Cry”

“When A Man Loves A Woman”

“What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?”

“The Seventh Continent”

“The Blind Side” – during lots of parts. It’s cheesy, but it gets me every time

“Dogfight”

“Million Dollar Baby”

“In America”

I always cry during the movie “Parenthood,” when Cool asks his
grandfather if his dad is ever coming back and his grandfather says, “No.” So
sad. But then the grandfather asks Cool if he’d like to stay with his
grandparents and he says, “Yes,” so then it’s happy.

The song “Poor Places” by Wilco.

The song “Radio Cures” by Wilco.

The song “Sometimes You Can’t Make It On Your Own” by U2, especially
the part, as Bono’s singing to his father, that goes “and it’s you when I look
in the mirror, and it’s you when I don’t pick up the phone,” because,
ashamedly, I’ve seen my dad’s name on my caller ID and not picked up.

“Table for One” by Liz Phair

“Wise Up” by Aimee Mann

I almost always cry during hymns. And some Christmas music. “O, Holy
Night” and “Silent Night,” in particular.

For books, I mostly read true crime and almost always cry while reading
them, as they are usually tragic.

This Woman's Work - Kate Bush (song)

That song tugs at my heart strings. As soon as I hear the piano at the beginning of this song, the tears start to flow.

Oh no, you won't get a shunning from me, I love that show. I still watch reruns of it sometimes on the Hallmark Channel.

Do you remember the episode where Caroline had a baby boy, and it wound up passing away? Laura was blaming herself for his death, because she was jealous of him. Laura winds up running away, and spending some time in the mountains with a stranger. The scene where Caroline and Charles come back home to tell the girls that the baby did not make it made me cry big time! I cried again when Laura was reunited with her father. That was one of the saddest episodes EVER of Little House on the Prairie. My mom once made the comment that she could never watch that show, because it was "too sad". Michael Landon was a great scriptwriter.

RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Okay, this scene fucks me up. It is so sad when Anna runs in the room and says, "Where's his glasses? He can't see without his glasses. Put his glasses on!" I'm crying now just picturing it in my mind.

bawl bawl

Another scene that totally fucks me up. Ricky Shroeder does a great job making this scene seem very real.

bawl bawl

RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Oh yes! That episode is called "The Lord Is My Shepherd." It gets its name from the scene in the doctor's office when they find out the baby has passed away. The hold each other and begin to recite the 23rd Psalm. Oh man, that is so, so sad. I totally agree with you.
