As has already been mentioned...
Women wear makeup to change their appearance.
Men and women (most, anyway) choose their clothing based on what is popular or fashionable to OTHER PEOPLE.
Men and women get piercings of all kind.
We buy things for our home based on how they make us feel when we look at them.
Many people buy cars because they an instant announcement of how well they're doing financially (or not, and they buy them to create that appearance).
Beyond that, any assumption that a tattoo is screaming for attention is just factually incorrect.
Tattoos had almost ZERO social acceptance in America until the last 10-20 years, and that's still slowly changing now. Previously, you were in the military, a biker or a gang member if you had tattoos. They were HUGELY frowned upon and even a small visible tattoo could stop you from getting many different type of employment (at many places, it still does).
A tattoo is a body modification. It's something that a person gets because they want to change some aspect of THEMSELVES. Most of the time it has absolutely nothing to do with anybody else. It's about wanting to feel different about your own body, or your own appearance. Exposing them for people to see is usually about the same thing. It's about reinforcing the change you made to the way you feel about yourself. There's been entire books written on the subject of body modifications, but that's the basic gist. And truthfully, MOST tattoos are covered to one degree or another most of the time. There are very few places where you can get a tattoo where it will be exposed all the time, or where people can see it even if it is, without the person with the ink making an effort to show it to you. | |

I'm gonna get "LOOK AT ME" tattooed upside down & backwards inside my upper eyelids so that it'll look right when I close my eyes to check it out  [Edited 11/27/12 11:40am] How is it you feel? | |

no special ink needed, I see just fine with my eyes closed...thats why I do some of my best sleeping when I drive How is it you feel? | |
