say hello to the iPad Mini!

Apple Inc. (AAPL) executives Tuesday unveiled a smaller iPad tablet as well as updates to the company's Macintosh computers and larger iPad, as the technology giant seeks to prove it is still ahead of the curve.

Executives took the stage to introduce the iPad mini, a tablet with a 7.9-inch screen that weighs half as much as the larger iPad, which it resembles. The iPad mini has two cameras, a dual-core A5 processor and 10-hour battery life. It comes in both Wi-Fi only versions and models with LTE wireless connectivity.

Apple said pricing for the iPad mini would start at $329 for a version with 16GB of memory and Wi-Fi only wireless, which would price it above some rival tablets of similar size. It will be available starting Nov. 2.

Apple investors will be watching closely for the potential of a new device to goose sales. But they will also be dissecting what it shows about how the company is innovating. Reviewers and consumers have praised the iPhone 5 for its performance and its sleeker shape. But some reviewers, consumers and investors say that there is little overwhelmingly different about the device. Apple has said the device, which went on sale in September, saw record initial sales.

I am a huge fan of Apple products and this bores the shit out of me. I don't get it: what is the purpose?

I hear ya Ivy, totally underwhelming. hrmph Hell, if I wanted something about that size I would purchased a Kindle. Hell, that's why I like the iPod Touch. They can keep that mess.

I may go today and checkout Windows 8, it was released today in other news.

This is the iPad I've been waiting for! The regular one is too big - I want something that will fit in my purse, that I can hold in one hand, that I can use for reading in low light (my current reader is a non-backlit nook) and that will synch up with my other Apple stuff (MacBook and iPhone).

It's still on the pricey side, but I may get it, anyway.

Genesia's story is why they did this.

The explosive success of the Kindle Fire and its peers (Google Nexus 7) made a smaller iPad almost inevitable. alot of people like the smaller size.

$330 is "only" $80 more than a 16GB Google Nexus 7. (You can get an 8GB Nexus for $200)

So is $80bucks worth an iPad vs a Nexus? hmmm

I will probably get this! It's still a little more than the Nexus, though.

I've played with both, and the Nexus was pretty damn cool! The iPad generally gets the best reviews, but of course it is hundreds of dollars more. I might go the extra $80 for this, though like you say, a 8gb nexus is $200

That's what I'm saying. I won't be purchasing one until the price comes down to $250 or $225. And if it never does, then I'm not really missing anything anyway.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I think it's great!
I'd get it if I didn't already have an Ipad.

just a lot more manageable because of the size.. It's a very sleek accessory, it doesn't replace a regular PC. Props to Apple!

Price: $329 for base model with Wi-Fi only and 16 gigabytes of storage, $429 with 32 GB, $529 with 64 GB. Add $130 for versions with cellular capability.

Overpriced and underpowered product, $249 would have been a more reasonable area for the low memory, slow and old CPU and non-HD screen mini. (IMO)

Actually...for someone like myself (cheap)...this is just right if I want to get an iPad.

$329 as opposed to $249 for a Nexus is really not that bad, IF I really, really, really wanted the Apple product.

From what I read, the mini is just a smaller iPad2, spend another $30 and you get an iPad2

For some of us, the smaller size is a plus - not a minus. shrug

I want something smaller too and was really hoping this would be more around $249 but no such luck, maybe next year lol

I was thinking the same thing. BUT...I went to the Apple site and they have "no interest for six months" financing. Granted, it's a credit card that I would never use again because of the ridiculous interest rate. But it might make this do-able sooner rather than later. Merry Early Christmas to me. lol

Cool for Apple fans. It's really a matter of preference.

Nexus 7 and IPad are the two top tablet dogs. I'm still

deciding of the two myself. Of course mine is gonna be

a gift so i have plenty of time to decide. I've been impressed

with the Nexus 7 but i'm hoping they drop a 10 inch tablet

before the holidays. I'm also interested in Windows 8. I've

already gotten a sneak preview of it in Office Depot. Nice.

The tablets are actually cool. It took looking at a homie's IPad to get what

the fuss was about. Now i still don't get the fuss over Iphone's and expensive

android phones but i guess that is a matter of personal preference. I just use

a cell phone for my top priority to take pictures of women. lol Naw seriously

just to make calls and text.
