My eldest is 21... he is in college but the university is less than one mile from home so he isn't at a dormitory. He is in a 5 year college (Northeastern University)

He will leave next year to be in the 3 Seas (post graduate degree) program (if all goes as planned $$ ) and I can't wait.

I love my son, but he wants to leave home and it shows. So I know he is ready and once he's gone to the program he will be able to kill 2 birds with one stone and have both an undergrad and post graduate degree in Marine biology.

He will be on his career track and gone .... I am thrilled for him.

I have two more at home, they are still only 12 and 10 so I have some years to go before I have an empty nest...

will no children be left in your home once your son goes off to college?

My sister is an "empty nester" and only 42 so she is having the time of her life right now! lol

Congrats Mama on a fine job!!! and hug

We just dropped our son off this past Sunday. So far, I haven't gotten real emotional yet!

I don't think it has really hit me yet, almost like he is just out, if that makes sense!

He is only an hour and a half away, so I can certainly make a quick road trip if need be, LOL, my husband tells me to leave him be!

Kinda sad that he doesn't call much though, but, it has only been 4 days! I'm sure it's more me than him. I feel a little secure, they have a lot of strict rules!

That's him in my avvie pic to the left, he was about 13 dressed in that crazy Prince costume! Awwwwwwww! My "baby"!!!!

Congrats to you! I know you are so proud!

The only LOVE there is, IS the LOVE WE MAKE ~ Prince

On a serious note...congrats to all the proud parents.

My niece (brother's daughter) starts college this fall.

sigh

I still remember the day she was born, her first birthday, her first everything.

Damn I'm old.

Good luck to you and your son! It's a big milestone! smile

My son went off to college 3 years ago and he told me, "Don't call me, I'll call you!" haha- He needed that freedom and space from his mother and I try to give it to him. but I know he misses his mother! I see him about once every 2 months smile

How did the shopping for college go, nursev? It must be hard on all you parents, but like others have said, college is such an exciting time and a huge accomplishment for you and your child. They may not call at first, but give them a month of dorm living and food hall eating, and they'll be running home with a bag of laundry and an empty stomach! lol All kidding aside, I know from teaching college kids that 1) they ARE still kids in a lot of ways (maybe not babies... lol ) and 2) they definitely miss their parents. nod

As for the roommate from hell, don't worry! I think most schools allow room transfers if the living situation isn't working.

Me to, but I'm use to that being stolen moments, not anything long term.

I have seen some pretty cool college campuses (campii?) but NEVER have I seen any place as cool as Ole Miss.

That place absolutely ROCKS. Can't wait to go back in three weeks for Parents' Weekend and a football game!
