really? wow. That sucks. I really didnt people were gonna start clowning him, but then again I'm sure many of these people are uncertain of themselves. Mediatakeout were homophobic as always with their headlines, saying "WHATS A GOD To A Non-BELIEVER . . . . ???? R&B Singer Frank Ocean REPORTEDLY Comes Out The Closet . . . As GAY!!!" or "It's Official . . . FRANK Ocean Admits To Being A DOWNLOW BROTHER!! He Claims That He 'Fell In Love' With A DUDE!! (Is He Talking About A RAPPER We Know???)"

(Btw I only read mediatakout sometimes because people's commentary, they sound so stupid lmao lol lol )

My mother who doesnt know who he is will buy the album and so will I, just to support him lol biggrin

I think it's great how he takes control and decides how, what and when he tells the media about his love.

I also think that the debate will help the cause forward. I mean, how can people defend their aggression and not very loving and accepting behaviour as if it is in the name of Christ?

I'm not raised religious. However, my mom sometimes quoted Jesus, and that lead me to belief he was a understanding and peacefull man. The way his legacy is abused as an excuse to hate gay people doesn't add up with how my mom told me he was a good man.

She still says these things to me has said something about don't do to another person what you wouldn't want you to happen. Another of her favorites: "Those without sins, cast the first stone"

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

Russell Simons praises Frank Ocean: 'Today is a big day for hip-hop'

Def Jam co-founder Russell Simmons has praised Frank Ocean's decision to speak openly about his sexuality.

Ocean earlier posted a letter on his Tumblr page talking about his experiences of being ...with a man and expressing hope that "the babies born these days will inherit less of the bulls**t than we did".

Simmons has now responded to Ocean's note, declaring in a blog for Global Grind that "today is a big day for hip-hop".

"I am profoundly moved by the courage and honesty of Frank Ocean," he said. "Your decision to go public about your sexual orientation gives hope and light to so many young people still living in fear.

"These type of secrets should not matter anymore, but we know they do, and because of that I decided to write this short statement of support for one of the greatest new artists we have."

Simmons added that Ocean has "undeniable" gifts, "enormous" talent and "incredible" bravery, saying: "His actions this morning will uplift our consciousness and allow us to become better people. Every single one of us is born with peace and tranquility in our heart. Frank just found his."

Simmons, who linked to the blog on his Twitter page by saying that "the courage of Frank Ocean just changed the game", concluded: "Frank, we thank you. We support you. We love you."

Odd Future member Tyler, the Creator has already tweeted his support for Ocean, saying that he is "proud".

His own crew says "gay" "fag" and "faggot" more than just about any rap group in the history of the genre. Regardless of Tyler's support, this is probably going to get pretty interesting. Hopefully it will lead to some helpful, intelligent discourse. But without a doubt there's going to be a lot of hate included along the way.

No.

A black man from one of the most popular hip-hop collectives of the moment, particularly with the younger set, is not going to recieve an abundance of positive publicity from this announcement. Not the kind that transfers over to record sales, anyway.

Prior to this "announcement that coincidentally comes within a short period before an album release" admits this "landmark announcement" and perhaps attract even MORE attention than he would have garnered otherwise.

THAT is the whole NATURE of a PR stunt....

Sheeple.

A "PR stunt" only works in regards to record sales if it's going to garner positive support across the board. If you think that's going to be the case in this instance, you need to direct that sheeple at yourself.

Lighten up at the sheeple comment smile It's mainly aimed at the folks in general who are suddenly buzzing about this due SOLELY because of this revelation and NOT because of his music.

He wasn't trying to sell his album by coming out. I also don't agree with you when you hinted the reason Anderson "came out" (which he didn't, and neither did Frank in this instance) was because CNN's ratings were down. neutral

Had this guy never said this, he wouldn't be trending all over the internet now. Conveniently, in time for his album release. CNN has a 21-year-low ratings and Anderson comes out. At the end of the day folks, REGARDLESS of their sexual orientation, they are STILL trying to sell a product, entertain, etc.

No such thing as bad publicity....folks use it all the time (Charlie sheen, kardashian sex tape, etc.)

It's so obvious that's what is at work here.

My time in this discussion is now over smile Thanks smile

I doubt that it's a publicity stunt, I think he's just being open about it before rumors and tabloid stories start coming out. This is huge for the hiphop & r&b scene because we all know how homophobic it is.

In my opinion, this guy is lying. If he was anyone else, I'd probably believe him, but not this dude. And I can bet Tyler, The Creator set this whole scheme up. "Wolf" has the type of mind for this, with an actor who has the perfect, blank face and demeanor for the role.

Instead of deceptively pretending to be interested in women, as other men in music/Hollywood have done for years in the past when any orientation other than heterosexual could destroy a career, this Ocean character is pretending to be homosexual, since now, that's where the media and sales are. It's the type of plan that reminds me of something comical Prince said and acted upon in 1985: "I want that Duran Duran money."

And as expected after "revealing" this, with that farcical blog letter (probably written by Tyler, lol), Frank's Twitter followers quadrupled in less that 12 hours or so, I bet his YouTube video views have skyrocketed, that boring, upcoming Music Soulchild-sounding album is going to be platinum, and watch: You'll never see him involved with a man. Or, if you do, it's going to be with some "Odd" dude that's not believable. This script inversion is still beguiling nonetheless, but totally brilliant, as I don't think it's been done before.

Of course people will ask: "What man would fake being homosexual?" My answer: One who has secret romantic relationships with women in private, but is now making those hefty out-of-the-closet checks in public. The "DL" in reverse, but with nothing to lose.
