Not yet, but probably before the year is out. I think my daughter will want one.

now that's american as apple pie.

i knew this cop, she got her gun snatched

got shot and pistol whipped with her own shit.

that's the dream i have for my little girl.

if you ain't a killer type,

a weapon of any sort is just the thing

the killer type needs when they came 'unprepared' lol

you ever seen the comedy of

someone gettin beat with the bat

that THEY pulled on somebody...

This is exactly why I do not carry a weapon of any type, not even a box cutter.

A met a woman that was doing repairs on a vacant house when a man entered the place and among other things, cut her up badly with her own box cutter.

People have suggested that I carry a weapon.

I can live through a rape and beating but add a gun or knife to the mix and my chance of survival go way down.

There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.

Someone tried to steal some of my grandmothers goats once, he got the angry side of my

I NEVER leave home without a blade of some sort, hell, I even have one hidden within reach of my

I used to be a pretty anti-gun guy. Mainly, I was against guns that were commonly used in the commission of crimes. Handguns. I've never had a problem with rifles or shotguns per se.

I didn't agree with the NRA and their zero tolerance on gun laws. The Second Amendment was pretty vague to me, because it referred specifically to militias and when was the last time any of y'all ever saw a lawful militia?

But then recently, I happened to come across Article I, section 8 of the Constitution, and now I understand the NRA's position a little more. I even agree with large parts of their position, although I can't see how outlawing assault weapons is a bad thing.

For those of you who haven't seen Article I, section 8 here are the relevant parts:

The Congress shall have Power...

To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions;

To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress;

Now, so that there was no doubt as to the meaning of certain provisions of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights was passed in 1789. In fact, the first introductory sentence of the Bill of Rights says (with underlining by me of relevant parts):

THE Conventions of a number of the States, having at the time of their adopting the Constitution, expressed a desire, in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers, that further declaratory and restrictive clauses should be added:...

And then the Second Amendment reads as follows:

Amendment II

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

It's pretty clear now to me that the Founding Fathers undoubtedly believed in the arming of our citizenry, and wanted to make sure that was never infringed upon.

I still believe the Congress or any state has the power to regulate what KIND of gun can be owned - meaning that the citizens can't have assault weapons or RPGs, for instance, if a state or Congress passes such a law.

But to me, there is no doubt that the disarming of American citizens would be unconstitutional.

correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't this also speak to the fact that the people of the time wanted to make sure we could protect ourselves from our own govt. if need be? I do believe so, and if so a VERY important point. smile

My daughter is going hunting for the first time this afternoon. I think they're hunting prairie dogs out on the ranch of a co-worker's grandfather.

I wished the prairie dogs good luck! (They rank way above frogs, obviously.)

No. I live in Australia where we don't have a gun culture. Some bad guys have them, they use them to fire warning shots at rival bad guys. Every time they do, it makes the news. I wish there were no gunshots, but I'm glad I live somewhere where gunshots are news, not somewhere where gun murders are just a daily statistic.

We have less than 10% of the US gun-related deaths per capita.

Another note, most gun related deaths are suicide.

I think the US constitution has it way wrong. Guns are bad.

It is not the constitution, just like the bible the problem comes in when ppl misinterpret what is said. Many ppl in the US have a gun out of fear. They actually believe the government is going to come and take their guns away.

The news here perpetuates the fear. It all makes money.

Sad.

Absolutely not! I don't believe in owning and carrying guns. Even though I live in a part of my city that has a lot of gang violence, I still don't want to own a gun. I would love to see ownership of guns banned everywhere.

Sadly, thats something a large amount of the US don't get. Guns = gun crime.
